Noni Madueke in Chelsea’s Club World Cup Plans Despite Arsenal Interest, Says Maresca

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has confirmed that winger Noni Madueke remains firmly in contention for selection in the Club World Cup semifinal, despite mounting speculation linking the player with a move to Arsenal.

Reports emerged this week that Arsenal are actively negotiating a deal for the 22-year-old, with a transfer fee in the region of €50 million being discussed. Sources close to both clubs indicate that talks are progressing and a deal could be struck in the coming days. However, Maresca insists that the noise off the pitch won’t distract from his plans on it.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s semifinal clash against Fluminense, Maresca drew a parallel with the buildup to the Palmeiras fixture, when Madueke was similarly under scrutiny but still delivered a composed cameo.

“Personally I think the same noise before the Palmeiras game, and we gave him half an hour and he was very good,” Maresca told reporters. “I don’t have any doubts that if we need Noni, he will help us. I can understand when there is noise around you, it is difficult to deal with that.”

Madueke’s move to Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 came with high expectations, and while his debut season in England had its learning curves, he ultimately grew into a dependable option on the flanks. He made 32 Premier League appearances last season and showed signs of maturing into a more consistent contributor in the final third.

It’s that combination of youth, flair, and growing tactical intelligence that’s caught the eye of Mikel Arteta. Arsenal are believed to be looking for added creativity and directness in wide areas, particularly with injury concerns disrupting squad rhythm. Madueke, with his ability to beat defenders and create in tight spaces, fits the profile.

Still, Chelsea remain in no rush to offload a player who has integrated well under Maresca and appears settled at Stamford Bridge. With the Club World Cup trophy up for grabs, Maresca is prioritizing squad stability and isn’t likely to freeze out a player he may well need.

Madueke’s involvement against Fluminense will be telling. Should he feature, it will underline Maresca’s belief in keeping football matters separate from transfer speculation—a message not just for Madueke, but for a young Chelsea squad still finding its feet under a new manager.
