Manchester United are edging closer to securing their third major signing of the summer, with terms reportedly agreed for Brentford’s prolific forward Bryan Mbeumo. At the same time, defender Tyrell Malacia has been given the green light to leave Old Trafford, as the club looks to accelerate its summer rebuild under Ruben Amorim.
United’s Summer Window Gains Momentum
The Red Devils kicked off the 2025 summer transfer window with intent, splashing around £65 million to bring in Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon. These early moves reflected a clear strategy from new boss Ruben Amorim, who is looking to revamp a squad that underperformed last season.
However, progress on further transfers slowed in recent weeks, largely due to the club’s difficulty offloading high-earning fringe players. Big names like Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony remain on the books, complicating United’s ability to bring in new talent.
Mbeumo Deal Close to Completion
According to reports from Spain, Manchester United have now made a breakthrough in their pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo. The Brentford winger, who netted 20 goals in the Premier League last season, has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Red Devils. Spanish outlet Fichajes claims the two clubs have also settled on a transfer fee, believed to be in the region of £65 million.
Mbeumo is entering the final year of his current deal at Brentford, though the Bees have the option to extend his contract through to 2027. Despite this, United’s persistence appears to have paid off, with the move now described as being “very close” to completion.
His arrival would bolster Amorim’s attacking options, especially in the crucial No.10 role within his preferred 3-4-3 setup—a position where Cunha is already expected to make a big impact.
Malacia Granted Exit Approval Amid Celtic Interest
While incomings dominate headlines, United are also working behind the scenes to trim their squad. One potential departure is Dutch left-back Tyrell Malacia, who has reportedly been cleared to leave the club this summer.
Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke reveals that Celtic are keen on a move for the 24-year-old, though wages remain a sticking point. United may need to subsidize a portion of Malacia’s salary to push the deal through.
“Celtic would be a strong destination for Malacia, but with Kieran Tierney returning to the club, playing time could be limited,” O’Rourke noted. “Unless United help with the wages, it’ll be tough for Celtic to afford the move.”
Malacia has been given additional time off during pre-season to sort out his future, with United making it clear they are open to his departure.
