Arsenal Urged to Consider Surprise Free-Agent Signing to Bolster Attack

As Arsenal edge closer to finalizing the big-money transfer of Viktor Gyokeres, a former club forward believes Mikel Arteta should take one more calculated risk this summer — by snapping up Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer.

Jeremie Aliadiere, who played under Arsène Wenger and made over 50 appearances for the Gunners, believes Calvert-Lewin could offer a unique and valuable option off the bench, despite recent injury concerns. With Arsenal already active in the market, the suggestion introduces an intriguing potential twist to the club’s evolving summer strategy.

Gyokeres Deal Nears Completion After Lengthy Negotiations

Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres is on the verge of joining Arsenal, with the North London club reportedly agreeing to a £54.8 million initial fee. The final amount could rise to £63.4 million depending on performance-related add-ons.

This signing marks a significant move for Mikel Arteta, who has sought a clinical forward to lead the line. Gyokeres, who has impressed in Portugal with his physicality and goal-scoring prowess, is expected to bring a different dimension to Arsenal’s attacking options.

Summer Spending Continues with Four Key Additions

Arsenal have already bolstered multiple areas of their squad this summer. Notable arrivals include:

  • Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea in a £5 million deal, adding depth and experience between the posts.
  • Martin Zubimendi, brought in from Real Sociedad for nearly £60 million to strengthen the midfield.
  • Christian Norgaard, a £12 million capture to support rotation in central midfield.
  • Noni Madueke, who joined from Chelsea for £52 million, bringing flair and pace to the wings.

The spending spree highlights Arteta’s intent to build a deeper, more competitive squad capable of challenging on multiple fronts next season.

Aliadiere Makes the Case for Calvert-Lewin

Speaking to UK Riches, Jeremie Aliadiere voiced support for a potential move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin — provided the club manages expectations clearly.

“If Arsenal are clear with Dominic Calvert-Lewin on what they want from him, I think he’d be a great asset to have in the squad,” Aliadiere said.

The 27-year-old striker, recently released by Everton, has faced repeated injury setbacks in recent seasons. However, Aliadiere believes that — when fit — Calvert-Lewin’s aerial presence and physicality could offer Arsenal a different tactical option, especially in games where a more direct approach is needed.

“He is great in the air which means you can be more direct,” Aliadiere added. “I think it would be interesting.”

Managing the Talent Surge: Arteta’s Rotation Challenge

Aliadiere also weighed in on Arsenal’s influx of new signings, particularly backing Noni Madueke to make an impact if handled correctly.

“Noni Madueke is a quality player… He can dribble past anyone,” Aliadiere said, praising the 22-year-old winger’s dynamism.

However, he cautioned that Arteta’s biggest test will be balancing playing time and expectations, especially as competition intensifies for starting roles.

“That is going to be his toughest challenge — keeping everyone happy while maintaining performance levels,” he concluded.

What’s Next for Arsenal?

With Gyokeres set to arrive and several new signings already integrated, Arteta’s squad appears stronger than ever. Yet, the suggestion of bringing in a player like Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer adds a compelling angle — one that could pay off if Arsenal are willing to take the gamble.
