Who is going to win the final on Saturday?

Nigeria’s Super Falcons are one step away from history as they prepare for a high-stakes showdown against host nation Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). With a record-extending 10th continental crown on the line, captain Rasheedat Ajibade says the team is ready to give everything on the pitch—putting national pride above personal accolades.

Super Falcons Set for Fierce Final Clash in Rabat

The Olympic Stadium in Rabat will be the battleground on Saturday as Nigeria and Morocco face off in what promises to be a tense and tactical WAFCON final. Nigeria breezed past defending champions South Africa in the semi-finals, while Morocco secured their place after edging Ghana’s Black Queens in a dramatic penalty shootout.

Nigeria, the most successful team in WAFCON history, are aiming to secure their 10th title—a campaign they’ve dubbed Mission X. Meanwhile, Morocco, buoyed by home support, are chasing their first-ever title, seeking to make history on home soil.

Ajibade is well aware of the stakes and intensity the final will demand.

“It’s the most important match of the tournament,” she said. “We’re mentally and physically prepared. It won’t be easy, especially against the host nation, but we’re focused and committed to giving everything we have—120%, even 150%.”

Ajibade Anchors Nigeria’s Title Pursuit with Grace and Grit

Rasheedat Ajibade has been a standout figure in Nigeria’s run to the final, providing leadership and firepower in equal measure. The 25-year-old has claimed three Player of the Match awards so far, including in the semi-final win over South Africa.

Despite her individual brilliance, the former Atlético Madrid forward remains grounded.

“The awards are an honor, but I wasn’t chasing them,” Ajibade said. “My focus has always been on giving my best for the team. Every recognition I receive is shared with my teammates—this is a collective journey.”

Ajibade has made it clear that her primary goal is team success, not personal trophies. “What matters most is Mission X. That’s where our hearts and minds are,” she added.

Nigeria vs Morocco: A Rivalry Rekindled

This final marks the fourth time Nigeria and Morocco have met in WAFCON history. Their most recent clash in the 2022 semi-final ended 1-1, with Morocco edging the Super Falcons 5-4 in a tense penalty shootout.

With that memory still fresh, Nigeria enters this match with a point to prove. Moroccan stars Ibtissam Jraidi and Ghizlane Chebbak will be key threats, but Nigeria’s defensive organization and attacking flair, led by Ajibade, will pose serious problems for the host nation.

A Captain’s Journey: From Youth Star to National Leader

Ajibade’s journey to the captain’s armband has been built on hard work, humility, and faith. She represented Nigeria at U17 and U20 levels before making her senior debut in 2018. Today, she leads a dynamic squad that blends experience and youthful energy.

“Captaining this team is an incredible honor,” Ajibade shared. “It’s a blessing I don’t take lightly. The responsibility is great, but I’m thankful for the strength God gives me to lead with purpose.”

Her leadership, both on and off the field, has been instrumental in Nigeria’s unbeaten campaign. With one more match to go, Ajibade and her teammates stand on the brink of history.
