Liverpool Set to Offload Three Stars to Fund £150m Move for Alexander Isak

Liverpool are preparing to break transfer records with a £150m bid for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak. To fund the deal, the club is looking to offload Darwin Nunez, Harvey Elliott, and Federico Chiesa.

Liverpool are reportedly preparing to make a record-breaking £150 million ($201 million) bid for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, with the club looking to offload three unwanted players to fund the transfer. Despite their already massive spending this summer, Liverpool remains keen to bolster their forward line with Isak and are targeting player sales to meet financial regulations.

What’s Happening?

After spending a total of £270 million ($361 million) on six new signings, including the £79 million ($106 million) acquisition of Hugo Ekitike, Liverpool is prepared to break their own spending records with a bold move for Isak. To stay within the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), Liverpool would need to raise up to £100 million ($134 million) by selling players.

Darwin Nunez, Harvey Elliott, and Federico Chiesa are reportedly the trio earmarked for transfer, with the sales potentially raising enough funds to allow Liverpool to move forward with the £150 million bid for Isak. This would be the biggest transfer window splurge in football history, surpassing Chelsea’s £404 million ($540 million) spend in 2023.

The Bigger Picture: Isak’s Potential Move

A move for Isak, who has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most exciting young strikers, would take Liverpool’s summer spending to around £430 million ($575 million). This unprecedented investment has been made possible by increased club revenue, prize money, and a modest spending spree last summer, ensuring that the financial ceiling is high enough to accommodate such an expenditure.

While the pursuit of Isak had seemed unlikely earlier in the window—especially after Liverpool quickly moved to secure Ekitike—Isak’s reported desire to explore a move has reignited interest from the Reds. If the funds from player sales are secured, Liverpool are now in a strong position to match Newcastle’s asking price and secure the Swedish international.

Did You Know?

Isak’s potential arrival would represent a seismic shift in Liverpool’s attacking options. Having scored 14 Premier League goals for Newcastle in the 2024-25 season, Isak is viewed as a marquee addition to strengthen the Reds’ forward line. His pace, clinical finishing, and versatility would complement Liverpool’s existing attacking stars and push them toward further success.

What’s Next for Liverpool?

For Liverpool to sign Isak, the club must first offload Nunez, Elliott, and Chiesa. Nunez is reportedly a target for Al-Hilal, Elliott is linked with clubs like West Ham and RB Leipzig, and Chiesa could move to Atalanta. If these sales materialize, Liverpool could move quickly to bring Isak to Anfield, with the transfer deadline drawing closer.
