Manchester United have been urged to consider a move for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic despite his underwhelming performances in Serie A. The call comes amid growing frustrations with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee’s lack of goals for the Red Devils.
Vlahovic, a potential solution?
Former United striker Louis Saha believes Manchester United should pursue Vlahovic, despite the Serbian’s struggles at Juventus. The 23-year-old netted just 10 goals in Serie A last season, falling short of expectations at the Italian club. Yet, Saha argues that Vlahovic’s experience and profile make him an ideal target for United, especially given the disappointing performances of their current attacking options.
Rasmus Hojlund, who arrived in the summer for a significant fee, and 24-year-old Joshua Zirkzee have combined for only seven Premier League goals this past season, highlighting United’s ongoing struggle to find a reliable striker. With both forwards underperforming, Saha feels Vlahovic could be the answer to their problems.
The experience factor
Vlahovic is seen as a more seasoned option compared to Hojlund and Zirkzee. At 23, he is already a regular for the Serbian national team and has played at the highest levels in Europe. His proven ability to score goals, despite his struggles at Juventus, makes him an intriguing target for Manchester United, who are in desperate need of proven goal-scorers.
Swap deal speculation
Reports have emerged suggesting that United could include Jadon Sancho in a swap deal to bring Vlahovic to Old Trafford. The prospect of such a deal has been heavily speculated in recent weeks, and Saha believes Vlahovic’s addition would provide United with the reliable striker they need. He also praised Vlahovic’s character, stating that he could “protect and play for the badge”—a sentiment Saha feels is currently lacking in United’s forward line.
Speaking to BoyleSports, Saha said: “Jadon Sancho has been linked in a swap for Dusan Vlahovic, he is a top striker. It’s something that Man Utd are looking for. His numbers are good, his profile is good, he has experience, it would be a good signing in my eyes. United need guaranteed goal-scorers, they need good characters, and at the moment they have four players who don’t seem to want to protect and play for the badge, they are not children, that is a sad thing.”
What’s next for Manchester United?
As the new Premier League season approaches, Manchester United will be eager to strengthen their attack. While Vlahovic remains a speculative option, reports indicate that they are also exploring other targets, including RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko. The club’s priority is clear: secure a proven goal-scorer to lead their attack and restore the team’s competitive edge.
