Arsenal’s bid for Stade Rennais defender Jeremy Jacquet has been rejected, with the 20-year-old opting to stay in Ligue 1. Despite a strong season on loan at Clermont Foot, Jacquet has turned down the chance to move to the Premier League, choosing instead to continue his development with Rennes.

Arsenal’s Bid for Ligue 1 Talent Jeremy Jacquet Rejected

Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Stade Rennais’ promising young centre-back Jeremy Jacquet. The 20-year-old defender, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Ligue 2 side Clermont Foot, has opted to remain in France, turning down a move to the Premier League.

Arsenal’s Interest in Jacquet

According to reports from Foot Mercato, the Gunners made an offer to sign Jacquet this summer but were met with a firm rejection. Despite the strong interest, Jacquet, who has shown great potential during his time at Clermont, has decided against a move to England. Instead, the France U21 international is poised to continue his development with Rennes, where he will now aim to make a greater impact in Ligue 1.

Jacquet’s Future at Rennes

In response to Arsenal’s bid, Rennes have offered Jacquet a long-term contract, signalling their intent to keep hold of the talented defender. Jacquet, who has already made 12 first-team appearances for the club, is seen as an important part of Rennes’ future plans. His versatility, having played both as a centre-back and right-back, as well as in defensive midfield, adds further value to his potential in the squad.

Arsenal’s Defensive Reinforcements

While the Gunners’ bid for Jacquet has been unsuccessful, they have made strides to strengthen their defence by securing the signing of Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia. With the 20-year-old’s arrival, Arsenal continue to build depth in their defensive options for the 2025-26 season.

What’s Next for Arsenal?

As Arsenal continue to prepare for the upcoming Premier League season, the focus now shifts to their pre-season match against Villarreal on Wednesday. While Jacquet will remain at Rennes, the Gunners will look to further solidify their squad as they aim for a successful campaign in the Premier League.
