Chelsea Target Cut-Price Deal for Garnacho as Man United Drop Asking Price

Chelsea’s transfer window may be far from over, as reports indicate the Blues are now leading the race to sign Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho—potentially at a bargain price. The 20-year-old Argentine’s future at Old Trafford is under increasing doubt, with Chelsea poised to capitalize if United are willing to accept a significantly reduced fee.

Chelsea’s Summer Spending Spree Continues

Under new head coach Enzo Maresca, Chelsea have been aggressive in the transfer market, already securing eight promising talents, including Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Jorrel Hato, and Estevao. But the West London club doesn’t appear to be slowing down.

With attacking depth still a priority, Chelsea have reportedly turned their attention to Alejandro Garnacho and RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons. The club is especially keen on Garnacho, who has shown flashes of brilliance at Manchester United but now finds himself at the center of internal tensions and transfer market pressure.

United’s Stance Softening on Garnacho Exit

According to Caught Offside, Manchester United have dropped their initial €80 million valuation for Garnacho, and are now open to offers in the region of €50–60 million (£42–50m). However, Chelsea are holding firm at their £30 million valuation, believing the winger could be a high-upside investment at that price.

You’d be hard pushed to lose money at £30 million,” Borson told Football Insider. “If you bought him and he turned out to be average, there’s still enough interest across Europe to move him on without taking a loss.

Football finance analyst Stefan Borson has called the potential move a “no-brainer,” citing Garnacho’s current wage structure and resale value as key factors.

Lack of Interest Raises Eyebrows

Despite the perceived value, few clubs have shown concrete interest in Garnacho outside of Chelsea. Borson finds this surprising, especially given the player’s profile and affordability for clubs in Europe’s second tier.

Clubs in France (outside of PSG), Germany, and Italy could potentially afford the deal, but none have made a serious move. Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are reportedly uninterested, and Atletico Madrid—once seen as a possible destination—have yet to act.

This lack of competition may work in Chelsea’s favor, giving them leverage in negotiations if United remain open to lowering the price further.

A Calculated Gamble Worth Taking?

At £30 million, Garnacho could represent a low-risk, high-reward opportunity for Chelsea. With his youth, international pedigree, and flashes of Premier League brilliance, the Argentine winger has the potential to develop into a major asset—or at the very least, a sellable one.

If United agree to meet Chelsea’s valuation, it could go down as one of the most shrewd pieces of business this summer.
