Nottingham Forest Appoint Ange Postecoglou as New Manager After Nuno Santo Exit, Faces Arsenal in Premier League Return

Nottingham Forest have turned to Ange Postecoglou after parting ways with Nuno Espirito Santo, bringing the former Tottenham boss back to the Premier League. The Australian coach signs a two-year deal at the City Ground, with his first test set to be a daunting clash against Arsenal this weekend.

Nottingham Forest have appointed Ange Postecoglou as their new permanent manager following the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo. A breakdown in relations with club owner Evangelos Marinakis sealed Nuno’s fate on Tuesday morning, and Forest wasted little time in moving for the ex-Tottenham boss.

Postecoglou, who guided Spurs to Europa League glory last season, has signed a two-year contract and brought with him several trusted members of his Tottenham backroom staff. His first game back in the Premier League comes against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium this Saturday.

The Bigger Picture

Forest had considered a shortlist of candidates including Mauricio Pochettino, Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva, and Oliver Glasner. However, the board ultimately decided Postecoglou was the right man to lead the next phase of their ambitious project.

Club owner Evangelos Marinakis said in a statement:

We are bringing a coach to the Club who has a proven and consistent record of winning trophies. His experience at the highest level, along with his hunger to build something special at Forest, makes him the perfect person to take us forward.

Marinakis stressed that after promotion to the Premier League and steady growth, the club’s aim is now to consistently compete in Europe and challenge for silverware.

Did You Know?

Postecoglou etched his name into Spurs history books by ending their 17-year wait for a major trophy, guiding them to a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the 2025 Europa League final. Despite that success, his dismissal came swiftly after Tottenham’s disappointing 17th-place finish in the league.

What Comes Next

The Australian’s first test could hardly be tougher: Arsenal at the Emirates. With Forest sitting mid-table, fans will be eager to see if Postecoglou’s attacking philosophy can spark an immediate turnaround and set the tone for his reign at the City Ground.
