Tottenham Hotspur may be flying high in the Premier League, but their recruitment drive shows no signs of slowing down. Fresh from an ambitious summer transfer window, Spurs have turned their attention to Ligue 1, where scouts recently assessed a trio of rising stars at AS Monaco. One full-back, in particular, delivered a standout performance that could accelerate interest from North London.

Scouting Mission: Spurs Watch Monaco’s Brightest Talents

Tottenham officials were in the stands during AS Monaco’s recent 2-1 win over Auxerre, closely observing three key players: Maghnes Akliouche, Vanderson, and Lamine Camara. The club had previously expressed interest in both Akliouche and Vanderson during the summer window, and their latest performances appear to have justified the attention.

With Spurs currently in third place in the Premier League, manager Ange Postecoglou is already planning ahead, particularly in strengthening the right-back position. Vanderson, who occupies that role for Monaco, delivered a performance that surely caught Tottenham’s eye.

Vanderson Impresses with All-Around Display

Among the trio, Vanderson was the standout performer. According to Fotmob, the Brazilian full-back earned a match-best rating of 8.2, underlining his influence at both ends of the pitch. He registered one assist and made 12 defensive contributions, proving his value as a modern full-back who can contribute in attack without compromising his defensive duties.

Tottenham’s need for reinforcements at right-back makes Vanderson a particularly compelling target. His latest display not only showcased his consistency but also hinted at a player ready to take the next step in his career.

Akliouche Continues to Turn Heads in France

Maghnes Akliouche, a versatile attacker who can play on the wing or as an attacking midfielder, was also under the microscope. The 21-year-old earned a respectable 7.6 rating and posted the second-highest expected assists (xA) figure for his team—even surpassing Vanderson in that metric.

In just four Ligue 1 matches this season, Akliouche has already scored twice and provided one assist. Transfer insider David Ornstein recently highlighted growing belief within football circles that Akliouche could develop into one of Europe’s top creative midfielders. If Spurs reignite their summer interest, they could face stiff competition for his signature.

Camara’s Brief Cameo Leaves Limited Impact

Lamine Camara, the third Monaco player monitored by Tottenham, had limited time to impress. The Senegal international, who already shares national team experience with Spurs midfielder Pape Matar Sarr, played just 12 minutes and earned a 6.7 rating. While this outing didn’t offer much of a showcase, his international pedigree and youth potential keep him on Tottenham’s watchlist.

What This Means for Spurs’ Transfer Strategy

Tottenham’s proactive scouting in France suggests the club is taking a long-term view on squad building. With injuries and rotation playing a major role in modern football, adding depth—especially in key areas like full-back and attacking midfield—remains a priority.

If Vanderson and Akliouche continue to perform at this level, Spurs may not wait until the summer to make their move. January could see further reinforcements arrive in North London as Postecoglou’s side aims to maintain their momentum in both domestic and European competitions.
