Tensions boiled over at Anfield following Liverpool’s dramatic late win against Atletico Madrid, with a viral moment involving manager Diego Simeone and a passionate home fan making waves online. Now, that supporter has spoken out, defending his actions and calling out the fiery Argentine coach for his post-match behavior.

Anfield Erupts as Van Dijk Seals Late Victory
Virgil van Dijk’s stoppage-time header secured a thrilling win for Liverpool in their Champions League group-stage clash, sparking jubilant scenes inside Anfield. As emotions ran high, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone was visibly frustrated on the touchline, culminating in a heated confrontation with fans near the technical area.

One supporter, later identified as Jonny Poulter, became a viral sensation after exchanging words with Simeone and Atletico’s coaching staff during the closing moments of the match.

Fan Speaks Out: “He Just Walked Out”
Poulter has now broken his silence on the incident, expressing his frustration at how events have been portrayed—especially in the Spanish media.

“Something I want to get off my chest about what happened with Simeone,” Poulter said. “I think he’s a bit of a coward.”

He addressed rumors that inappropriate or offensive remarks were made, including allegations of racism or references to the Falklands War—claims he firmly denies.

“There was nothing racist said by me or anyone else. There was never a mention of the Falklands War,” he clarified. “But the fact that he was asked those questions and didn’t respond—just walked out—left everything open to speculation.”

“I Said Nothing But ‘F* Off, We’ve Won’”**
The Liverpool supporter insisted that his comments were nothing out of the ordinary for a heated football match.

“I’ve had messages on every platform asking what I said. All I said was, ‘F*** off, we’ve won,’ which is exactly what Simeone and his assistant did to us when they equalised,” Poulter explained. “His assistant was giving it large in front of us. Then he came over and spat at me… yeah.”

The claim adds another layer to the already heated exchange, which ended with Simeone receiving a red card and being escorted down the tunnel amidst jeers from the Anfield crowd.

Liverpool’s Momentum Faces Derby Test
With their unbeaten streak still intact, Liverpool’s strong start to the season includes a flawless Premier League record and a vital Champions League opener win. However, while late winners like Van Dijk’s add to the drama, they also highlight the Reds’ need to tighten up performances—especially with the Merseyside derby looming.

As Everton prepare to visit Anfield, Liverpool will be aiming to convert last-minute chaos into more consistent control if they want to maintain their perfect start across all competitions.
