Emmanuel Adebayor thinks Gabriel Martinelli could disrupt the changing room.

Arsenal’s impressive squad depth this season is a blessing for their Premier League title ambitions—but former striker Emmanuel Adebayor has issued a stark warning. With elite talents fighting for limited starting spots, Adebayor believes the situation could soon test Mikel Arteta’s man-management skills, particularly with Gabriel Martinelli at risk of becoming a disruptive presence if sidelined too often.

Arsenal’s Summer Reinforcements Raise the Stakes
The Gunners were one of the most active Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window, securing eight high-profile additions: Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, Viktor Gyokeres, Cristhian Mosquera, Eberechi Eze, and Piero Hincapie. These arrivals have added depth and competition across the pitch, but they’ve also created a selection headache for Arteta.

This depth was on full display in the recent 1-1 draw with Manchester City, where Eze remained unused on the bench, and Martinelli came on to score a crucial equalizer. With top-tier talents often starting on the bench, Arteta’s challenge now extends beyond tactics—it’s about managing egos and expectations.

Adebayor on the Importance of Man-Management
Speaking to Premier League Productions, Emmanuel Adebayor emphasized how crucial Arteta’s communication and leadership will be this season. Drawing from his own experience under Arsène Wenger, the former striker recalled how difficult it was to accept a bench role behind legends like Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp.

“You need a manager who can calm the situation,” said Adebayor. “This is the first real test for Arteta in that regard. Players want to be stars, win Ballon d’Ors, top scoring charts—they won’t settle for sitting out.”

He warned that Martinelli, in particular, could soon grow discontented. “If he’s left on the bench again, the frustration could build. First the mind drifts, then the body follows—and suddenly, you’ve got someone disrupting the entire training ground.”

Martinelli Responds with Professionalism—for Now
Despite being benched against Manchester City, Gabriel Martinelli maintained a composed and team-first attitude when speaking to Match of the Day after the match.

“I work for those moments,” said the Brazilian winger, referring to his goal. “Of course, I don’t want to be on the bench—I want to play 90 minutes every game—but Arteta knows what he’s doing. He’s the gaffer and we trust him.”

Martinelli’s response was mature, but Adebayor’s comments suggest such professionalism may not last if the forward continues to be overlooked.

Arteta Faces a Balancing Act
With Arsenal competing on multiple fronts this season, rotation will be inevitable. However, managing the emotional and psychological toll on star players like Martinelli, Eze, and others will be a defining factor in Arsenal’s success or failure.

Adebayor’s cautionary remarks serve as a timely reminder: even the most talented squads can implode if internal harmony isn’t maintained. It’s now up to Arteta to prove he can lead not just tactically, but also psychologically.
