Tottenham Hotspur may be enjoying a strong start under new manager Thomas Frank, but not everyone is convinced the North London side can sustain their momentum. Former England boss Sam Allardyce has raised questions over the club’s attacking firepower, despite Spurs sitting just two points off the Premier League summit. Meanwhile, reports suggest the club is eyeing key reinforcements in the January transfer window — including a former world-class goalkeeper and a rising Bournemouth star.

Allardyce Raises Red Flag Over Spurs’ Goal Threat
Tottenham currently occupy third place in the Premier League standings, trailing leaders Arsenal by two points and sitting just one behind reigning champions Liverpool. The team has adapted quickly under Thomas Frank, who took over from Ange Postecoglou during the summer.

Although results have been promising, Allardyce believes there’s a lingering issue that could derail Spurs’ title push: goal scoring. Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Allardyce praised Frank’s managerial acumen but pointed out a potential weak spot in Tottenham’s offensive capabilities.

“I think Thomas Frank is brilliant at what he does,” Allardyce said. “But you know, will they score enough goals? That’s probably one of the things that I’d be concerned about.”

Despite Spurs being among the league’s top scorers—behind only Arsenal and Manchester City—Allardyce’s comments suggest doubts about the sustainability of their attacking returns.

Tottenham Consider Shock Move for Ter Stegen
In a surprising development, Tottenham are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen on a loan deal in January. According to Spanish outlet Sport, the Premier League side is one of several clubs interested in a temporary move with an option to buy.

While Guglielmo Vicario has impressed between the sticks this season, Spurs are said to be keen on adding elite-level competition. Ter Stegen, once dubbed “the best goalkeeper in the world” by former Barcelona coach Xavi, could offer exactly that.

“He is very methodical, he’s a perfectionist… Right now, he is at an extraordinary level,” Xavi said in 2023. “With the ball at his feet, he is perfect for our style. Having Marc in goal makes me calm.”

Bringing in a player of Ter Stegen’s calibre could bolster Tottenham’s ambitions on both domestic and European fronts.

Semenyo on Spurs’ Radar as Attacking Reinforcement
With attacking concerns lingering, Tottenham have also been linked with Bournemouth’s versatile forward Antoine Semenyo. The Ghanaian international has been in standout form since the beginning of last season and has caught the eye of multiple Premier League clubs, including Manchester United.

Former Spurs scout Mick Brown believes Semenyo could be a game-changer for Frank’s side. Speaking to Football Insider, Brown highlighted the forward’s blend of power, pace, and technical skill.

“He’s so instrumental in what Bournemouth do,” said Brown. “He scores goals, gives them power and running ability, and he does so well technically and creatively as well.”

Though Semenyo recently signed a new deal with Bournemouth, Tottenham are reportedly undeterred and could test the Cherries’ resolve in January. His potential arrival would provide much-needed depth and flexibility in Frank’s forward options.

Tottenham’s impressive early-season form under Thomas Frank hasn’t gone unnoticed, but questions remain about their long-term competitiveness—particularly in front of goal. With January fast approaching, Spurs seem prepared to act swiftly in the transfer market. Moves for a world-class goalkeeper like Ter Stegen and a dynamic forward such as Semenyo could prove vital in maintaining their title challenge and silencing any remaining doubts.
