Borussia Dortmund head coach Niko Kovac believes his in-form squad is more than prepared to face Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich this Saturday, as the two German giants prepare to clash in a high-stakes edition of Der Klassiker. Despite Bayern’s intimidating 10-match winning streak across all competitions, Kovac says Dortmund’s unbeaten record and growing confidence make them formidable challengers.

Dortmund’s Momentum Fuels Belief
Under Kovac’s leadership, Dortmund have yet to lose a game this season in either domestic or European competitions. Sitting second in the Bundesliga, four points adrift of Bayern, the team is averaging 2.3 points per match—impressive by any standard, though still trailing Bayern’s flawless 3.0.

“We’re in a strong position right now, and that’s crucial for achieving success,” Kovac said during Thursday’s press conference. “We fully respect Bayern’s form, but we’re also developing really well. We’re on a solid path and excited for the challenge.”

No Room for Fear in Munich
Saturday’s showdown at the Allianz Arena kicks off a grueling stretch for Dortmund, with six of their next seven fixtures being away games. That includes demanding Champions League trips to Copenhagen and Manchester City. Despite the tough schedule, Kovac emphasized that Dortmund must approach the Bayern match with ambition, not caution.

“Bayern often take control early, so we need to keep the game open for as long as possible,” he explained. “We have to be sharp from the start, stay compact, and limit their opportunities.”

Kovac also warned against the dangers of playing too defensively: “You can’t go to Munich with fear. That strategy doesn’t work—especially against a team averaging four goals per game. But we have attacking strength too, and we need to use it to keep them on their heels.”

All Eyes on Der Klassiker
The latest chapter of Der Klassiker carries major title implications, with both teams eager to stake their claim in the Bundesliga race. While Bayern enters the clash in dominant form, Dortmund’s resilience and attacking firepower ensure this rivalry remains unpredictable.

As Kovac put it, “It’s a massive challenge, but it’s one we’re ready for.”
