Harry Kane Eyes Premier League Goals Record—But Not Necessarily in a Tottenham Shirt
Harry Kane may one day return to the Premier League to chase down Alan Shearer’s all-time goalscoring record—but if that happens, it might not be in the colours of Tottenham Hotspur. Former Premier League manager Alan Pardew believes Manchester United could be the club to bring him back, while the England captain himself remains open-minded about a future return, even as he thrives in Germany with Bayern Munich.
Kane Closes in on Shearer’s Record—From Afar
Kane departed Tottenham for Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023, just 47 goals short of Shearer’s record tally of 260 Premier League goals. While many expected the prolific striker to eventually eclipse that figure in England, he’s instead continued his blistering form in the Bundesliga.
The 30-year-old has netted 11 goals in just six Bundesliga games this season and has racked up a remarkable 18 goals in 10 appearances across all competitions. With 73 goals already in Bayern colours, Kane is proving that his elite goal-scoring prowess travels well—though it also raises questions about whether he’ll ever return to English football.
Pardew: Kane’s Return Likely—But Not to Spurs
Speaking on talkSPORT, Alan Pardew weighed in on Kane’s future and cast doubt on a potential homecoming to North London. Despite Spurs reportedly holding a first-refusal clause on their former star, Pardew believes another English giant may hold the key to Kane’s Premier League return.
“I think Man United,” said Pardew, when asked where Kane might end up if he returns. “You think he’ll do it in a Spurs shirt, but I can see it happening elsewhere.”
Kane Not Ruling Out a Bayern Stay—or England Comeback
While Kane has long spoken of his desire to break records in the Premier League, his current situation in Munich has given him pause for thought. In a recent interview, the striker admitted that while he initially believed he’d return to England, his stance has softened after settling in Germany.
“In terms of staying longer [at Bayern], I could definitely see that,” Kane said. “I haven’t had those conversations with Bayern yet, but if they were to arise, I’d be willing to have an honest conversation.”
Kane added that while he once viewed a Premier League return as inevitable, he now sees it as a possibility rather than a certainty.
“I wouldn’t say I would never go back,” he explained. “I’m fully all-in with Bayern. I love the manager, I’m improving, the team is improving—we’ll see what we can achieve together.”
Kane’s Ballon d’Or Ambition
Alongside team success, Kane has his sights set on one of football’s most prestigious individual honours: the Ballon d’Or. Though he acknowledges that the award often goes to players who achieve major team milestones, such as winning the Champions League or World Cup, Kane remains motivated.
“I would love to win the Ballon d’Or,” he said. “It would be an accumulation of doing something great individually and as a team. It would be almost the perfect season.”
What’s Next for Kane?
With two years remaining on his current deal and no pressing urgency to make a decision, Kane’s future remains open-ended. Whether he returns to England to chase down Shearer’s record—or stays in Germany to build a legacy with Bayern—remains to be seen. One thing is clear: wherever he plays, goals are guaranteed.
