Club América’s manager André Jardine expresses frustration after an early exit in the Leagues Cup, stating the team must improve ahead of their upcoming Liga MX match against Querétaro.
Club América’s Leagues Cup campaign ended in disappointment as André Jardine’s side failed to progress to the knockout stages. Despite a dramatic win over Portland in penalties, Las Águilas finished with only five points from three draws, leaving them unable to qualify for the next round.
Jardine, visibly frustrated, expressed his dissatisfaction with the team’s performance, acknowledging the weight of the early exit. “We’re very hurt,” he said. “We have the same desire as the fans—we want to win. We didn’t get there; we’re not hiding from that. Without making excuses, we simply have to accept the failure and be better starting Saturday against Querétaro, and in international competitions, be up to the standard.”
This early exit is part of a larger trend of poor form for Club América, who have won only four of their last 20 matches, including just one win in their last 10 games. This decline in performance comes after a period of dominance where the club won three consecutive trophies. The current form has left supporters feeling unsettled, and Jardine is well aware of the pressure on his shoulders.
After the disappointing result, Jardine took a critical approach, emphasizing that the team needed to hold itself accountable. “The feeling of being eliminated is terrible,” Jardine continued. “We have to be hard on ourselves, and we’re the most critical—more than the press, more than the fans. We’re not happy or satisfied, but we also have to understand that at the same time, we don’t control everything. Football is one of the sports with the most uncertainty in many aspects.”
Looking ahead, the focus shifts to their Liga MX clash with Querétaro this Saturday. With Club América struggling in the league as well, Jardine will need to inspire his team to turn things around and restore confidence before the start of the Apertura 2025.
