Anthony Gordon Relates to Isak’s Uncertain Future as Liverpool Pushes for Record Move

As Liverpool intensifies its pursuit of Alexander Isak, Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon has voiced his understanding and support for his teammate. With Liverpool eyeing another major Premier League signing, the situation has stirred memories for Gordon, who went through a similar transfer saga last summer.

Liverpool’s Interest Sparks Fresh Transfer Turmoil

Liverpool’s £110 million bid for Alexander Isak has been rejected by Newcastle, but the Merseyside giants are reportedly preparing a second, improved offer. The 24-year-old Swedish striker is believed to be tempted by the move, as Jurgen Klopp’s former club seeks to refresh its attacking options.

This isn’t the first time Newcastle and Liverpool have clashed behind the scenes over a potential high-profile transfer. Last summer, Liverpool came close to signing Anthony Gordon, only for negotiations to collapse late in the window. The familiarity of the situation has not been lost on Gordon, who empathizes deeply with his current teammate.

Gordon Opens Up on His Own Transfer Struggles

Speaking candidly to the Daily Mail, Gordon reflected on his difficult summer in 2024, a period filled with transfer speculation and mental challenges following a tough Euro 2024 campaign.

I understand what Alex is going through, For me, it’s been a relief to be away from the speculation this year.

The 23-year-old revealed the strain he felt when the possibility of a move loomed due to Newcastle’s financial concerns linked to Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

“I thought I was going to leave at some point in the window. It didn’t happen. I had to mentally reset—twice.”

Gordon’s honesty sheds light on the emotional toll top-level transfers can have on players, a side of the sport often overlooked amid record fees and headlines.

Newcastle Unwilling to Sell Without Replacement

While Liverpool remain keen on Isak, Newcastle’s stance is firm: they won’t part ways with their top striker unless a replacement is secured. One potential target is RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško, who has received an offer from the Magpies.

Until a suitable deal is in place, Isak’s future hangs in the balance. As preseason continues, both the player and the club face increasing pressure, with the window set to close in a matter of weeks.

Support, Uncertainty, and a Club on Edge

Gordon’s support for Isak underscores the unity within the Newcastle squad, even as external interest threatens to disrupt their preparations for the 2025/26 season. His reflections offer a rare, human look at the emotional complexities behind Premier League transfers.

“He’ll be going through a lot,” Gordon added. “I hope everyone gets what they want in the end.”

Whether Isak stays or moves, Newcastle must now navigate the final stretch of the transfer window with composure and clarity—something that will define their season ahead.
