Antonio Mohamed: ‘We’re Hungry for Victory’ – Toluca Boss Sends Warning to LA Galaxy Ahead of Campeones Cup Final

Toluca manager Antonio Mohamed insists his side is “hungry for glory” as they prepare to face LA Galaxy in the 2025 Campeones Cup. With the Mexican giants flying high in Liga MX and Galaxy struggling in MLS, the Argentine coach believes his team’s resilience and mentality could be the difference in California.

Toluca head coach Antonio Mohamed has fired a clear warning to LA Galaxy ahead of Wednesday’s 2025 Campeones Cup final, declaring that his side arrives in California with hunger, confidence, and a burning desire to add more silverware to their history.

For Mohamed, the clash at Dignity Health Sports Park is not just about lifting a trophy—it’s also a measuring stick for how far his squad has grown since their painful elimination from the Leagues Cup earlier this year.

We’re motivated to keep competing for every trophy. There’s no clear favorite; it will be a very even match, but we trust in our strengths,” Mohamed said. “We didn’t lose any game on the field, only on penalties. That was hard to take, but since then the team has improved in competitiveness, fitness, and mentality. We’re in a much better moment now.

Contrasting Forms

The two sides head into the showdown in very different circumstances. Toluca sit top of the Liga MX Apertura 2025, chasing back-to-back domestic titles, while Galaxy languish at the bottom of the MLS Western Conference, already eliminated from playoff contention.

Still, Mohamed refuses to underestimate the MLS side.

This Galaxy is different, with quality players who are in form,” he explained. “Whoever executes their plan better will lift the trophy. A team that thinks it has already reached its peak will quickly be overtaken. Our challenge is to keep writing history—we’re driven by hunger for glory.

Unity and Pride

Goalkeeper Hugo González echoed his coach’s message, stressing that every final matters for Toluca and highlighting the squad’s unity as their main strength.

We’ve shown balance in attack and defense, but what sets us apart is the group itself,” González said. “MLS has grown a lot, but Mexican football continues to prove its strength. Matches like this show who’s on top in the moment.

Familiar Territor

Toluca return to Dignity Health Sports Park with fond memories, having beaten Club América there in July’s Campeón de Campeones. That victory gives Mohamed’s side added confidence as they look to conquer MLS opposition once again and solidify their place among Liga MX’s elite.

With Toluca chasing momentum and LA Galaxy fighting for pride, Wednesday’s Campeones Cup promises to be a battle of hunger, resilience, and ambition.
