Atalanta and Lazio played out a goalless draw

Atalanta’s inconsistent Serie A campaign continued as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Lazio at the New Balance Arena. Despite dominating large stretches of the second half, Ivan Jurić’s side couldn’t find the breakthrough, recording their fifth draw of the season in a match that left more questions than answers about their attacking fluency.

A New Era Still Finding Its Feet
Life under new manager Ivan Jurić has yet to take full flight for Atalanta. With just two wins from their opening seven Serie A fixtures, the Bergamo outfit is struggling to find rhythm following the departure of long-time boss Gian Piero Gasperini. The draw against Lazio leaves Atalanta stuck in mid-table, still unbeaten but sorely lacking the cutting edge needed to climb higher.

Lookman Returns, but Rust Shows
Much was expected of Ademola Lookman, making just his second start of the season after a failed summer transfer. However, the Nigerian international looked short of sharpness in the opening 45 minutes, contributing little in a toothless Atalanta attack that mustered just one shot on target in the first half—a low drive from Davide Zappacosta, comfortably dealt with by Lazio keeper Ivan Provedel.

While Atalanta held more of the possession early on, Lazio looked marginally more dangerous. Toma Basic tested Marco Carnesecchi with a long-range free-kick, and Mattéo Guendouzi missed a half-chance, but the first half fizzled out with few clear opportunities for either side.

Dominant Second Half, Same Result
After a lackluster first half, Atalanta came out firing after the break. They laid siege to Lazio’s goal for much of the second period, but poor finishing and inspired goalkeeping kept the score level. Lookman headed over from close range, while Honest Ahanor and Ederson both missed chances to put the hosts in front.

Substitute Nikola Krstović also saw an effort deflected into Provedel’s grateful hands, but the Lazio shot-stopper saved his best for a superb stop to deny Lookman’s low curling shot. Moments later, Zappacosta rattled the woodwork, and Marten de Roon’s follow-up was again thwarted by the impressive Provedel.

Lazio Cling On, Atalanta Left to Rue Missed Chances
While Lazio offered little going forward in the second half, they’ll feel satisfied leaving Bergamo with a point—thanks largely to their goalkeeper. The result leaves Maurizio Sarri’s men just four points above the relegation zone and desperate for a stronger showing when they face Juventus next weekend.

For Atalanta, the clean sheet is a minor positive—it’s only their second in their last 12 matches across all competitions. But given their second-half dominance, the failure to convert chances into goals will sting as they continue to search for consistency under Jurić.
