Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has expressed his excitement about linking up with Mason Greenwood at Marseille, calling the English forward the “star boy” of the team. As Aubameyang returns to the French club on a contract until 2027, the pair’s attacking partnership is one fans can’t wait to see. Aubameyang has already praised Greenwood’s impressive form, including a sensational 2024–25 season in which he finished as Ligue 1’s joint top scorer.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s return to Marseille has added a new level of excitement to the French club’s upcoming season, and the Gabonese striker is particularly eager about his new partnership with English forward Mason Greenwood. Aubameyang, who signed a deal keeping him at Marseille until 2027, described Greenwood as the “star boy,” highlighting his admiration for the 22-year-old forward’s skills and work ethic.

“He’s very strong, very good,” Aubameyang praised, referring to Greenwood’s stellar 2024–25 campaign, where he finished as Ligue 1’s joint top scorer with 21 goals, alongside PSG’s Ousmane Dembele. “I really liked his season, and now he’s working even harder than last season. In Saudi Arabia, I had a teammate who had played with him in Spain and he told me he was a phenomenon. I’m happy he’s with us.”

Aubameyang’s move to Marseille marks his fifth transfer since leaving Arsenal in February 2022, with the 36-year-old having also played for Barcelona, Chelsea, and Al-Qadsiah before returning to Ligue 1. His arrival provides Marseille with a wealth of experience and leadership, crucial as they look to challenge for both Ligue 1 and Champions League glory.

What excites fans most is the prospect of Aubameyang and Greenwood linking up in attack. Aubameyang, having played with some of the best strikers in world football, sees something special in Greenwood’s ability. The pair could form a potent attacking duo, with Aubameyang’s pace and clinical finishing combining with Greenwood’s raw talent and goal-scoring prowess.

Aubameyang is set to make his debut for Marseille in their upcoming pre-season friendly against Sevilla on August 2, where fans will get their first glimpse of this exciting new partnership in action. With the new Ligue 1 season and the Champions League on the horizon, Aubameyang’s return could be the spark Marseille need to take the next step in their pursuit of major silverware.
