AZ Alkmaar have secured the services of one of Denmark’s most promising young talents, signing 21-year-old winger Isak Jensen from Viborg FF. The move comes as AZ look to reinforce their attacking options following the departures of Ruben van Bommel and Jayden Addai. With a five-year contract in place, the Dutch side has shown strong faith in the potential of the rising star.
Jensen Joins AZ Amid High Expectations
The Danish U21 international has officially made the switch from Viborg FF to AZ Alkmaar, in what is being touted as a strategic move by the Eredivisie club. Jensen is expected to slot into a key offensive role, helping to fill the creative void left by recent exits.
Jensen arrives with a solid track record, having netted 18 goals and provided five assists in 60 appearances for Viborg. His pace, flair, and eye for goal make him an ideal fit for AZ’s dynamic style of play.
From MLS Loan to European Breakthrough
Jensen’s journey back to European football began when he returned to Denmark in the summer of 2023, initially on loan from Major League Soccer’s St. Louis City. After a string of strong performances, Viborg turned that temporary arrangement into a permanent deal, recognizing his value early on.
Viborg’s sporting director, Mads Agesen, praised the winger’s development and work ethic, saying:
“When we brought Isak home from the USA, it was with a shared ambition to develop him into a standout player who could move on to a bigger club — and that plan has now been realized. While it’s bittersweet to see him go, we’re proud to see him take the next step at a club like AZ.”
A Mutual Success Story for Player and Club
Jensen leaves Viborg on good terms, calling the move to AZ a win-win for all involved. Grateful for the support he received in Denmark, the young winger expressed his excitement about the new challenge ahead.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for me at AZ. I’m highly motivated and thankful that this is also a good deal for Viborg,” Jensen said. “It really feels like a success story for both sides, and that’s been important to me. I want to thank everyone at Viborg for believing in me.”
As AZ look to continue building a squad capable of competing domestically and in Europe, Jensen’s arrival represents a key piece in their long-term vision.
