Barcelona Dressing Room in Turmoil as Yamal Feels Betrayed Over Rashford Signing

Lamine Yamal, Barcelona
Lamine Yamal is disappointed in Barcelona's move for Marcus Rashford

Barcelona’s summer signing of Marcus Rashford has sparked internal unrest, with rising star Lamine Yamal reportedly feeling blindsided by the club’s decision. The 17-year-old sensation is said to have expected greater influence in transfer matters—much like Lionel Messi once had—and now believes he was misled about the club’s true intentions. Tensions are reportedly building behind the scenes, threatening to create instability ahead of the new season.

Yamal Feels Betrayed Over Rashford Deal

Barcelona’s loan acquisition of Marcus Rashford from Manchester United, with a £30.3 million option to buy in 2026, has not been universally welcomed within the Camp Nou. According to El Nacional, Lamine Yamal feels “deceived” by club leadership for proceeding with the move without his input—especially after reportedly promising to pursue his preferred target, Nico Williams.

Sources suggest Yamal was led to believe that Williams, his Spain national teammate, was the club’s only serious option for bolstering the attack. The young winger had even requested the signing of the Athletic Club star as part of his recent contract extension, having developed a strong on-pitch chemistry with him during international duty.

However, when Williams opted to remain with Athletic Club, Barcelona shifted their focus to Rashford—without notifying Yamal. That lack of communication appears to have sparked serious frustration from the teenager, who sees his role within the club as more than just a player on the pitch.

A Desire for Messi-Like Influence

Reports indicate that Yamal aspires to hold significant sway in key sporting decisions, emulating the influence once held by Lionel Messi during his prime years at Barcelona. Yamal allegedly conveyed his frustration directly to club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco, upset that discussions with Rashford occurred without his awareness or approval.

While such a demand might seem bold for a player still in his teens, Yamal’s growing stature at the club suggests he sees himself as a cornerstone of the team’s future—a status he feels warrants more involvement in shaping that future.

Tensions Rise Among Senior Players

Yamal is not alone in his discontent. Veteran players Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski have also expressed unease about Rashford’s arrival. Reports claim both players have been “cold” toward the Englishman, with concerns over diminished playing time reportedly fueling their reactions.

Raphinha is said to believe the transfer reflects dissatisfaction with his own performances late last season, while Lewandowski reportedly fears that the reshaped attack could reduce his own influence in the squad.

Potential Headache for Flick

New manager Hansi Flick may soon find himself managing more than tactics and training sessions. The reported discontent within the squad threatens to spark a larger issue that could disrupt team harmony before the season even begins. If not handled carefully, these early tensions could undermine Barcelona’s ambitious plans under their new coach.
