Newcastle United’s summer plans could take a major twist, with star striker Alexander Isak eyeing a potential exit and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko emerging as a prime candidate to fill the void. With Liverpool circling and the Magpies constrained by financial fair play restrictions, the battle for firepower up front is heating up fast.

Isak Eyes Exit as Liverpool Make Their Move

Alexander Isak, Newcastle’s standout performer last season with 27 goals in 42 appearances, has reportedly told the club he’s open to pursuing opportunities elsewhere. This revelation has sparked intense interest from several European giants — most notably Liverpool, who are continuing their summer spending spree even after securing Hugo Ekitike.

While Newcastle have previously maintained a £150 million price tag on Isak, his openness to a transfer could weaken their leverage at the negotiation table. Liverpool are said to be actively engaging with the Swedish international, viewing him as a marquee addition to their title-winning squad.

Benjamin Sesko Emerges as Primary Target

In anticipation of a potential Isak departure, Newcastle are wasting no time scouting replacements — and Benjamin Sesko is at the top of their list. The 22-year-old Slovenian striker netted 21 goals for RB Leipzig in the 2024/25 season and is widely considered one of Europe’s top young attacking talents.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reports that Newcastle are ready to “go big” for Sesko, with a possible offer in the €70–80 million range plus bonuses. However, landing the forward won’t be straightforward. A gentleman’s agreement between Sesko and Leipzig allows him to leave only for a club he personally deems “special” — and that decision ultimately rests with him.

Sesko Open to Premier League Switch — But There’s a Catch

According to TEAMtalk journalist Fraser Fletcher, sources close to Sesko confirm that the striker is open to a Premier League move and views Newcastle as an appealing destination. The prestige of England’s top flight is reportedly a “significant factor” behind his openness to the move.

Despite Sesko’s interest, Newcastle face a major obstacle: financial constraints imposed by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). These regulations limit how much the club can spend without breaching compliance, making a £70 million deal for Sesko difficult under current conditions.

Market Competition Adds Further Pressure

Newcastle aren’t the only club monitoring Sesko. Arsenal previously considered a move before pivoting toward Viktor Gyökeres, and Manchester United remain long-term admirers of the Slovenian striker. With multiple Premier League sides lurking, Newcastle may need to act decisively — and creatively — to finalize any deal.

What’s Next for Newcastle?

As the transfer window ticks on, Newcastle face a race against time to resolve Isak’s future and reinforce their attack. Should the Swedish star leave, all eyes will turn to the Tyneside club’s ability to secure Sesko or identify a similarly impactful alternative — all while staying within financial constraints.
