Bryan Mbeumo has completed his high-profile move from Brentford to Manchester United in a deal worth up to £71 million, with the Cameroon international handed the No.19 shirt at Old Trafford. The 25-year-old says it’s a dream come true to join the club he supported as a boy.
Manchester United have officially unveiled Bryan Mbeumo as their latest signing, with the former Brentford star completing a £71 million transfer to Old Trafford. The Cameroon international arrives in a deal comprising an initial £65m fee and £6m in performance-based add-ons.
The 25-year-old winger has been handed the No.19 shirt — a number he wore throughout his Brentford career, where he racked up 70 goals in 242 appearances and established himself as one of the Premier League’s most consistent wide forwards.
As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to sign for the club of my dreams — the team whose shirt I wore growing up,” Mbeumo said in his first interview.
My mentality is to always be better than I was yesterday. I know I have the spirit and character to reach another level here, learning from Ruben Amorim and playing alongside world-class players.
The transfer marks a significant statement of intent from United under new boss Ruben Amorim, who has already welcomed Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha as part of a summer rebuild.
Mbeumo’s versatility — able to operate across the front line — is expected to be a key asset for Amorim, as United look to solve long-standing issues in the final third. His work rate, direct style, and productivity made him a standout performer for Brentford, and United fans will be hoping he can replicate that output in a red shirt.
Mbeumo inherits the No.19 shirt last worn by Raphael Varane, who left the club at the end of the 2023–24 season. The shirt has also been worn by United icons like Dwight Yorke and more recently, Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo.
For Mbeumo, keeping his old number adds a personal touch to the transfer. His strong connection to the shirt — and to the club — only adds to the narrative of a player living out his childhood dream.
This is a massive club, with an incredible stadium and amazing fans,” Mbeumo added. “We are all really determined to challenge for the biggest trophies.
With Mbeumo now on board, Manchester United are not expected to slow down. More signings are expected before the 2025–26 season kicks off, as Amorim pushes to reshape the squad into a Premier League contender.
The former Brentford man becomes United’s second marquee addition of the summer — and with his ambition, versatility, and hunger to succeed, the Red Devils may have just secured a new fan favourite.
