Chelsea Strikers Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku on the Verge of Exits as Transfer Deadline Looms

With the summer transfer window entering its final stretch, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has issued a clear message to Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku: it’s time to find new clubs. Despite continuing to train with the first team, the attacking duo have been left out of recent matchday squads, with Maresca making it clear that opportunities at Stamford Bridge will be limited if they stay.

Maresca Clarifies Stance on Striker Situation

Ahead of Chelsea’s upcoming Premier League clash against West Ham United, Maresca addressed the media and revealed the status of both Jackson and Nkunku. While the pair are still training with the senior squad, neither has featured in recent games — and according to the Italian boss, that’s unlikely to change unless their situations are resolved.

“[Jackson] is available but he’s not going to be part of the squad,” Maresca explained. “We already have two strikers, and there’s a chance something could happen before the transfer window closes.”

He added that Nkunku is in a similar position, stating, “Christo is with us like Nico, but it’s the same answer as Nico.”

Competition Forces Exit Talks

Jackson’s position has come under increased pressure following Chelsea’s acquisitions of Liam Delap and João Pedro, who are now ahead of him in the striker pecking order. Nkunku, meanwhile, has endured a frustrating two years in west London, with injuries and inconsistent form preventing him from cementing a starting role.

Despite being excluded from recent matchday squads, both players remain in first-team training — a subtle indicator that their exits aren’t guaranteed. However, Maresca hinted that their futures likely lie elsewhere.

“If they’re not here, it means they found a solution,” Maresca said. “And in the end, it’s better for everyone — they’ll be happier, and so will the club.”

Transfer Interest Heats Up

Fortunately for Chelsea, both Jackson and Nkunku are attracting interest from top European clubs.

Nkunku is reportedly on the radar of Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and his former club RB Leipzig. Italian powerhouse Inter Milan is also monitoring his availability. As for Jackson, the Senegal international is a potential option for several Premier League sides. Aston Villa are believed to be leading the race, while Newcastle United and even Bayern have been linked.

Chelsea remain open to keeping Jackson if no suitable offer arrives, but it’s clear that both players face limited opportunities under Maresca moving forward.

The Clock Is Ticking

With just days left in the transfer window, the futures of Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku hang in the balance. Whether they secure moves or stay to fight for limited minutes, one thing is clear: Enzo Maresca believes change is in their best interest — and the club’s.
