Ivan Juric, the newly appointed Atalanta boss, has been hospitalized due to a serious chest infection just before his first training session. The manager is improving and expected to be discharged soon.
Atalanta manager Ivan Juric has been hospitalized due to a serious chest infection, forcing him to miss his first training session with the club. The 49-year-old former Southampton boss is recovering after contracting bacterial inflammation of his airways.
Ivan Juric, who recently took over as Atalanta’s manager, was rushed to the hospital after developing serious inflammation of the upper airways due to a bacterial infection. Juric, who replaced Gian Piero Gasperini at the helm, had been set to lead his first training session with La Dea but was unable to do so due to his health condition.

Despite the concerning news, Atalanta have provided positive updates on Juric’s condition. The club confirmed that the manager is “significantly improving” and is expected to be discharged soon. It appears that the inflammation was caused by a bacterial infection of the epiglottis, which was treated with intravenous antibiotics.
The club issued a statement confirming Juric’s hospitalisation:
“Atalanta BC announces that coach Ivan Juric was hospitalised in recent days at the Bolognini Hospital in Seriate, in the ENT department headed by Dr. Davide Panciera, following a serious inflammation of the upper airways, complicated by a bacterial infection of the epiglottis, which was treated with intravenous antibiotics.”

Juric is hoping for a quick recovery, as he prepares to lead Atalanta into the 2025-26 season. He had signed a two-year contract with the club and was looking forward to managing the team in the Champions League, following their impressive third-place finish in Serie A last season.
Juric’s tenure at Southampton was disappointing, with the club relegating from the Premier League after a poor spell under his guidance. However, he will be hoping for a more successful and stable period at Atalanta, where expectations are high given the club’s recent successes.
