Chiesa Shuts Down Exit Rumors, Eyes Key Role Under Arne Slot

Federico Chiesa has ended weeks of speculation over his Liverpool future by committing to remain at Anfield for the upcoming season. After a disappointing debut year plagued by injuries and limited minutes, the Italian winger has now set his sights on making a meaningful impact under new head coach Arne Slot.

Injury-Hit First Season Cast Doubt Over Chiesa’s Future

Chiesa arrived on Merseyside last summer with high expectations following a successful spell at Juventus. However, the 27-year-old’s inaugural Premier League campaign didn’t go as planned. Injuries severely limited his availability, restricting him to just 14 appearances across all competitions.

As a result, Chiesa struggled to secure a regular place in Liverpool’s attacking hierarchy, often finding himself behind Luis Díaz and Cody Gakpo in the pecking order on the left flank.

Transfer Rumors Quashed After Clear Commitment

Throughout the summer transfer window, Chiesa had been heavily linked with a move back to Serie A, with several Italian clubs reportedly monitoring his situation. But according to trusted transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chiesa and his representatives have now “clearly communicated” their intention to stay with Liverpool.

This decision coincides with Díaz’s recent transfer to Bayern Munich—a move that significantly boosts Chiesa’s chances of gaining more playing time in the 2025–26 season.

New Opportunity Under Slot and Thinner Forward Line

With Díaz now out of the picture and Darwin Núñez also departing, Liverpool’s attacking options have thinned considerably. While young talent Rio Ngumoha is expected to earn minutes after an impressive pre-season, Chiesa’s experience offers crucial squad depth as Slot shapes his first season at the helm.

Chiesa’s match-winning goal in Liverpool’s 4–2 season-opening win over Bournemouth may be a sign of things to come. The winger expressed his delight after the game, stating he was “very happy” with his contribution—potentially marking the start of a redemption arc in red.

Liverpool Still in the Market, But Major Attacking Signings Unlikely

Despite interest in Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, Liverpool are not expected to make any marquee attacking additions this window. Defensive reinforcements remain a priority, with Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhi a key target, even after spending over £300 million this summer.

With the transfer window winding down and limited incoming activity expected, Chiesa’s renewed commitment offers Liverpool much-needed stability and attacking firepower heading into the new campaign.
