Santos Laguna vs CD Guadalajara (Chivas)
Chivas, under Gabriel Milito, suffered their second loss in three games after falling 1-0 to Santos Laguna in the Apertura 2025. With only three points from their first three matches, Chivas are languishing in 14th place, and Milito has demanded quick improvements to avoid further damage.
What Happened?
Chivas were edged out by Santos Laguna in a hard-fought match where their defensive mistakes proved costly once again. Milito pointed to a pattern of avoidable errors, including a foul and penalty in the final minutes against Santos Laguna. The team also faced penalties in previous matches—one in the Leagues Cup and another in their opener against León.
Milito, who is under increasing media pressure, expressed frustration over his team’s inability to close out games: “We have to keep working and try to change this streak, this pattern where every penalty or foul is hurting us,” he said. “It’s too much punishment, but we have to recognize that many fouls are avoidable and cost us points and games.”
The Bigger Picture
Despite a solid preseason, Milito has struggled to turn Chivas’ form around in competitive matches, with a record of two wins, one draw, and three losses so far in official competitions. While there have been some positive signs, Chivas fans are growing impatient with the club’s inconsistency.
Milito also addressed the absence of Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández, who is sidelined due to injury, but assured fans that the team’s current struggles are not solely linked to his absence: “Javier isn’t available because he’s injured. He has an injury that will keep him out for about five to six weeks. I don’t believe the team’s struggles are linked to the absence of any single player.”
What’s Next for Chivas?
Chivas will need to bounce back quickly as they host FC Juárez on Saturday in Matchday 5 of the Apertura 2025. With a growing pressure to deliver, Milito’s men must turn their fortunes around to avoid falling further behind in the league standings.
