Jadon Sancho Reportedly Willing to Slash Wages to Reignite Career at Dortmund
Jadon Sancho appears ready to draw a line under his troubled Manchester United stint by making a bold move to reignite his career. The England international is reportedly prepared to accept a significant wage reduction in order to secure a return to Borussia Dortmund — the club where he enjoyed his most successful spell.
After failing to impress during a loan at Chelsea and falling out of favor at Old Trafford, Sancho is now looking to reset his trajectory, even if it means financial sacrifice.
Return to Familiar Ground
Sancho’s potential third stint at Borussia Dortmund could be more than just a reunion — it may represent his best chance of reviving his once-promising career. According to reports from German outlet BILD, the 24-year-old has informed Dortmund’s management, including club figureheads Lars Ricken and Sebastian Kehl, of his strong desire to return.
Crucially, Sancho is said to be willing to give up a large portion of his current salary — reported to be around €16 million per season at Manchester United — to facilitate the move. In Dortmund, he would reportedly earn less than half that amount, placing him well below the club’s top earners like Niklas Süle.
United Exit Seems Imminent
Sancho’s struggles at Manchester United have been well-documented. Signed for a hefty £73 million from Dortmund in 2021, he has never lived up to the hype. A loan spell at Chelsea this past season also failed to revive his form, and new manager Ruben Amorim reportedly does not see him as part of the club’s future plans amid a broader squad overhaul.
With United seemingly uninterested in keeping him and interest from both Premier League and European clubs simmering, Dortmund has emerged as a frontrunner in the race for his signature.
Di Matteo: “It’s Down to Him”
Despite his inconsistency, Sancho still has his admirers. Former Chelsea boss and Champions League winner Roberto Di Matteo believes the winger has what it takes to become one of the best — but only if he changes his mindset.
“He has so much quality and potential to be one of the greatest,” Di Matteo told the media. “We saw glimpses of it when he helped Dortmund reach the Champions League final. But it’s all down to him — his mentality and attitude will determine where he goes from here.”
Di Matteo added that whether Sancho chooses Dortmund, Juventus, or another top club, the key lies in his commitment to taking control of his own destiny.
