Chelsea forward Joao Pedro had a frightening moment during Brazil’s 3-0 World Cup qualifying win over Chile, collapsing and vomiting on the pitch after a heavy clash with Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli. The 23-year-old striker was treated by medical staff but reassured fans about his condition, and he continued playing before being substituted later in the match.
Chelsea’s Joao Pedro experienced a disturbing moment during Brazil’s comfortable 3-0 win over Chile in World Cup qualification, when he collided with Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli early in the game. The 23-year-old forward, who has been in excellent form for Chelsea, was chasing a loose ball in the 18th minute when he and Martinelli clashed head-on. The impact knocked Pedro off balance, causing him to vomit on the pitch. Medical staff quickly rushed to his side, but the Chelsea star was able to continue playing, much to the relief of his supporters.
Despite the alarming scene, Pedro reassured fans after the match, saying he was feeling much better. “I was following the action, I was running to try to catch the ball. When I looked ahead, Martinelli was there. We collided there, and I received a blow to the stomach. I felt a little bad, but I was calm afterwards,” Pedro explained.

After a few tense moments, Pedro finished the match and was substituted in the 71st minute for Kaio Jorge. Reflecting on his return to the Brazilian national team, he shared his joy: “I’m very happy to play good football for Chelsea and to be back with the Brazilian national team. I think every boy’s dream is to be here, and today I was able to start playing. I only missed a goal, which is partly due to that. But in the end, what matters is the victory.”
Pedro has made a significant impact since his high-profile move from Brighton to Chelsea, impressing with his performances both domestically and internationally. His inclusion in Brazil’s World Cup qualification campaign highlights the faith that manager Carlo Ancelotti has in the young striker, with a view to the 2026 World Cup.
As Brazil has already secured its spot for the next World Cup, Ancelotti will look to further integrate Pedro into the squad. Chelsea will also be keeping a close eye on his fitness, especially as the Premier League returns to action. With his bright start at Chelsea, Pedro remains a key figure for both club and country moving forward.
