As the club looks to build on its Premier League title-winning season under new boss Arne Slot, Guehi could become the sixth addition to an already star-studded list of arrivals.

Slot’s Summer Revolution

Following their historic 20th Premier League title, Liverpool have wasted no time reinforcing their squad. Already this window, the club has spent close to £200 million to secure top-tier talents including Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Armin Pecsi, and goalkeeper Freddie Woodman.

But the business is far from over.

With departures expected and gaps still to be filled in key areas, Liverpool are targeting further reinforcements at striker, winger, and centre-back. Among their defensive targets, 23-year-old Marc Guehi has emerged as the frontrunner—and the deal appears to be gaining serious traction.

Liverpool in ‘Pole Position’ for Guehi

According to The Mirror, Liverpool are now firmly in “prime position” to sign Guehi, with discussions reportedly taking place within the next 24 hours. While Crystal Palace initially placed a £70 million price tag on the defender, the reality of Guehi entering the final year of his contract has forced them to lower their demands to above £40 million.

The Perfect Van Dijk Partner?

Former Everton chief Keith Wyness praised the potential signing, calling it “frightening” for opponents. He drew comparisons to Virgil van Dijk’s own arrival from Southampton, suggesting a Guehi–Van Dijk pairing could be “fantastic” if both stay fit.

“If you remember the days when Virgil van Dijk came from Southampton, he was a big-money signing at the time, but he’s proven to be a superb buy,” Wyness said. “He and Guehi, if they can keep fit, would be fantastic.”

Guehi has long been admired for his composure, pace, and ball-playing ability—traits that Slot, known for progressive football, will likely value highly.

Hurdles Remain

Though Liverpool are leading the race, they’ll need to convince Guehi of a regular starting role—especially with competition for places fierce at Anfield. Palace also have a financial incentive to drive up the price, given Chelsea’s 20% sell-on clause from the 2021 deal that brought Guehi to Selhurst Park for £18 million.

Still, all parties seem aligned in principle: Palace are open to cashing in, Liverpool want the player, and Guehi is reportedly intrigued by a move to a Champions League club.
