Liverpool transfer target Alexander Isak
Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is linked with Liverpool

Liverpool’s summer transfer window is showing no signs of slowing down. Fresh off a dominant Premier League title run, the Reds are setting their sights on a major attacking addition. Reports indicate that the club is increasingly optimistic about securing Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak—provided one crucial condition is met. With Newcastle’s financial dynamics in flux and the player open to a move, the path to a high-profile deal could be opening up.

Liverpool’s Summer Spending Spree Gains Steam

Liverpool have already splashed out approximately £260 million in this transfer window, reinforcing Arne Slot’s squad with high-caliber signings such as Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, and Jeremie Frimpong. The club is not finished yet, with plans to strengthen further as departures loom.

Key forwards including Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez are expected to leave Anfield, along with potential exits for Federico Chiesa or Harvey Elliott. These moves are set to generate substantial funds, which Liverpool are aiming to reinvest into securing a top-class striker and a reliable centre-back.

Alexander Isak: The Dream Forward Target

One name that has consistently topped Liverpool’s wishlist is Alexander Isak. The Swedish international has emerged as a prime candidate to lead the Reds’ front line, especially as Ekitike would benefit from a complementary forward rather than a competitor.

Initially, Newcastle’s staggering £150 million valuation made any approach for Isak appear far-fetched. However, the situation has evolved significantly. Recent reports suggest that Isak has now informed Newcastle of his desire to explore a transfer—changing the entire dynamic of potential negotiations.

Newcastle’s Hand Could Be Forced

Isak’s willingness to leave has potentially weakened Newcastle’s bargaining power. According to Football Insider, Liverpool are “confident” they can reach an agreement—contingent on the striker actively pushing for the move.

A formal bid from Liverpool is reportedly imminent. The Reds believe that if Isak applies the right amount of pressure on his current club, a deal could be struck for significantly less than the initially reported £150 million price tag.

Al-Hilal Interest Raises Eyebrows

In an unexpected twist, Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal has also been linked to Isak. However, financial experts have raised concerns about the viability of such a move due to ownership overlap between Al-Hilal and Newcastle, both of which are connected to Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).

Football finance analyst Stefan Borson has labelled this potential transfer “bizarre,” stating that any deal would be tightly scrutinized by the Premier League and UEFA. The fee would be capped at market value—likely around £150 million—and any inflated price would be rejected to ensure financial fair play compliance.

“They’re not forced to sell him,” Borson explained. “But when a player wants to leave, things change. The Premier League would require a fair market value assessment, and UEFA would likely nullify any artificial profit.”

What’s Next for Liverpool and Isak?

As the transfer window approaches its final weeks, all eyes are on Anfield and St. James’ Park. If Isak pushes for a move and Newcastle are open to negotiations, Liverpool could pull off one of the biggest signings of the summer.

For now, Liverpool fans will wait in anticipation as the club prepares to make its next major move—one that could define their attacking future under Arne Slot.
