Liverpool’s off-field ambitions are gaining momentum alongside their on-pitch dominance. While the Reds sit atop the Premier League with a perfect start under Arne Slot, the club’s ownership group, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), is reportedly on the verge of finalizing a significant European takeover. Meanwhile, hopes of signing Marc Guehi have been rekindled after a failed summer bid, with new developments pointing to a potential January move or free transfer next summer.

FSG Set to Expand Multi-Club Empire with Getafe Acquisition

Liverpool’s owners have been working diligently to expand their football portfolio, aiming to establish a multi-club model similar to City Football Group and Red Bull. After evaluating more than two dozen clubs across Europe, FSG has reportedly zeroed in on Spanish La Liga side Getafe.

According to The Daily Mail, FSG has already completed due diligence on the club and is now assessing the next steps. Insiders suggest that if the Boston-based group chooses to proceed, the acquisition is considered a mere “formality” due to the groundwork already laid.

This move is seen as part of Liverpool’s broader strategic vision to build a global network of clubs for talent development, market expansion, and operational synergy.

Liverpool’s £400M Summer Spend Fuels Premier League Surge

Arne Slot’s Liverpool have hit the ground running this season, with five consecutive wins propelling them to the top of the Premier League. Much of their success can be attributed to a record-breaking summer transfer window, during which the club invested over £400 million — the highest outlay across Europe.

These signings have significantly strengthened the squad, but one glaring area remains unaddressed: central defense.

Guehi Back on Liverpool’s Radar Amid Palace Uncertainty

Liverpool came close to solving their defensive concerns on deadline day when a £35 million deal for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi was reportedly agreed. However, the move collapsed after Palace failed to secure a replacement in time.

Despite the setback, talks surrounding Guehi have resurfaced, with Sky Sports reporter Tom White revealing that Palace now accepts the defender is likely to leave. With his contract expiring at the end of the season, Liverpool could either strike a cut-price deal in January or wait to sign him on a free transfer next summer.

“Crystal Palace, realistically, accepts that Marc Guehi’s time at the club is coming to an end,” White stated. “The player is relaxed about his future, and after the failed Liverpool move in the summer, he knows the interest remains strong.”

Injury Woes Highlight Need for Defensive Reinforcements

The urgency to bolster Liverpool’s backline has grown in recent weeks following the ACL injury to young centre-back Giovanni Leoni. With only Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konaté, and Joe Gomez as fully fit natural centre-backs, the Reds are vulnerable to further setbacks in defense.

Guehi, a composed and Premier League-proven defender, would provide much-needed depth and long-term stability, making his situation one to watch closely ahead of the January window.

With FSG on the brink of securing a strategic club acquisition in Spain and Liverpool actively monitoring Marc Guehi’s availability, the Reds are setting themselves up for both short- and long-term success. Whether it’s building a global football network or reinforcing their title-challenging squad, the club’s ambitions continue to grow under the guidance of new manager Arne Slot.
