Liverpool have opened direct talks with Rodrygo’s representatives as they prepare for a potential Luis Díaz exit. Real Madrid are open to selling the Brazilian forward, who is reportedly unhappy with his reduced role at the Bernabéu.
Liverpool have reportedly initiated direct contact with Rodrygo’s camp as the Brazilian winger considers his future away from Real Madrid, where he’s no longer guaranteed a starting role.
According to French journalist Santi Aouna, Liverpool are in “direct talks” with Rodrygo’s representatives. However, negotiations between the clubs are not yet underway. Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg added that Madrid are open to a sale this summer, and the 23-year-old forward is aware that his time at the Bernabéu may be nearing its end.
Rodrygo has made 270 appearances for Los Blancos since arriving from Santos in 2019, scoring 68 goals and providing 51 assists. His versatility—capable of playing across the frontline—has been an asset to Real Madrid. But the arrivals of Kylian Mbappé and Endrick, combined with the presence of Vinicius Jr. and Jude Bellingham, have pushed him closer to the periphery of Carlo Ancelotti’s plans.
Liverpool’s Transfer Contingency Plan
The Reds are closely monitoring Rodrygo as a potential replacement for Luis Díaz, who is being courted by Bayern Munich. Díaz’s potential departure could accelerate Liverpool’s push for a marquee wide player, and Rodrygo fits the profile: elite experience, proven output, and Champions League pedigree.
However, a move for Rodrygo would be costly. His current salary—reportedly around €10 million net per year—is proving a deterrent for other interested clubs, including Chelsea. With three years left on his Real Madrid deal, the Spanish giants are under no pressure to sell, but they’re reportedly open to cashing in for the right offer.
Rodrygo’s Discontent and Role at Madrid
Despite featuring in Real Madrid’s Club World Cup campaign this summer, reports in Spain have suggested that Rodrygo has grown frustrated with his reduced game time. The Brazilian has always shown up in big moments—his clutch goals in Madrid’s 2022 Champions League run stand out—but the competition for places has never been more intense.
Liverpool, under Arne Slot, could offer Rodrygo the consistent minutes and central role he’s now unlikely to find in Madrid. The Reds have already made early moves in the market with the signings of Leny Yoro and Milos Kerkez, and Rodrygo would represent a major statement of intent should negotiations move forward.
While there’s no official bid yet, the groundwork is being laid—and if Liverpool lose Luis Díaz, they appear ready to strike.
