Man United Slash Andre Onana Asking Price

Manchester United have reduced their asking price for Andre Onana to £30m, just two years after signing him for £47.2m. With Monaco circling and United weighing up replacements, the Cameroonian’s Old Trafford future looks uncertain.

Manchester United ready to sell Onana at a loss as Monaco circle

Manchester United are prepared to offload Andre Onana for a reduced fee of around £30 million—just two years after paying £47.2m to sign the Cameroonian from Inter Milan. The goalkeeper, who arrived at Old Trafford off the back of a Champions League final and strong Serie A campaign, has struggled to consistently replicate that form in England.

Last season’s stats paint a mixed picture. Onana ranked 11th for save percentage among Premier League keepers and managed nine clean sheets, placing him eighth in the division. United, meanwhile, conceded 54 goals in the league, a figure that placed them outside the top six for defensive records.

Despite being one of United’s top earners at £120,000 per week, the club appears willing to cash in—if the right bid arrives. AS Monaco are currently the only side credited with concrete interest, though reports indicate they’re reluctant to match United’s valuation.

Internally, Onana is said to be keen on staying. But new manager Rúben Amorim has made it clear no position is exempt from scrutiny as the Red Devils attempt a squad overhaul. “We need to improve every position on the field,” he told reporters. “We can work with Andre, but evaluations will be made across the board.”

If United decide to make a change between the posts, their attention could turn to Botafogo’s John Victor. The Brazilian, also 29, has been on the club’s radar since the January transfer window, and his £6 million release clause makes him a financially tempting option. Everton have also shown interest, but United’s longstanding contact could give them an edge.

Emi Martínez of Aston Villa and Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi have also been linked as potential replacements, adding weight to the notion that the club could be preparing for life without Onana.

Any incoming transfers will depend heavily on United’s ability to trim their wage bill, and several players appear to be edging toward the exit. Marcus Rashford, one of the club’s highest earners, has expressed a desire to leave. The England forward spent part of last season on loan at Aston Villa and is now reportedly targeting a move to Barcelona. With the Catalan club missing out on Nico Williams, Rashford could become a more appealing option.

He’s not alone. Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia have all reportedly told the club they want to leave. As United aim to reshape the squad, the combination of outgoings and more cost-effective additions could define their summer window.

While Onana’s exit is far from confirmed, the fact United are willing to sell at a loss speaks volumes about their intent to reset. Whether Monaco or another suitor steps up remains to be seen, but the Old Trafford hierarchy is clearly prepared to make tough decisions in pursuit of improvement.
