Man Utd Set Sights on Serie A Star Nico Paz as Transfer Battle Brews
Manchester United may soon enter the race to sign highly-rated midfielder Nico Paz from Serie A side Como, with Tottenham and Chelsea also circling. With attacking reinforcements nearly finalized, the Red Devils could shift their focus to bolstering midfield creativity before the window closes.
United’s Summer Spending Nears £200m – Midfield Next?
Erik ten Hag’s side has already made significant strides in the summer market. United sealed deals for Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to reinforce their attacking flanks, and a move for prolific RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko—who netted 21 goals last season—is believed to be imminent.
However, with an estimated £130 million already spent and another £74 million earmarked for Sesko, any further signings may require financial maneuvering. Despite the tight budget, United are reportedly monitoring Nico Paz closely as a potential solution to their midfield needs.
Tottenham’s Failed Attempt Opens the Door
Tottenham Hotspur were the first to make a move for Paz, reportedly submitting a €40 million (£34.6m) bid that was ultimately turned down—though Spurs sources have denied the bid ever occurred. Regardless, the failed attempt has opened the door for Premier League rivals.
According to Caught Offside, both Manchester United and Chelsea could now make contact with Paz’s representatives as the 20-year-old gains recognition as “one of the hottest names in European football.”
Who Is Nico Paz?
The Argentine-Spanish midfielder has enjoyed a breakout campaign with Como, scoring six goals and providing nine assists in 35 appearances. His performances have attracted attention across Europe, including from former club Real Madrid, who have reportedly opted to wait rather than activate their buyback clause—at least for now.
Paz is currently valued around €70 million (£60.6 million), and Como are keen to remove any existing clauses by negotiating a new contract. Their goal: maximize profits amid increasing interest from top European clubs.
Chelsea and Real Madrid Remain in the Picture
Chelsea, despite heavy spending, may still be in a better financial position to bid for Paz thanks to significant sales, including Noni Madueke and Joao Felix. This could give the Blues an edge in what’s shaping up to be a competitive bidding war.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid are lurking in the background. Their buyback clause reportedly increases by €1 million annually and is capped at €10 million (£8.6 million) by 2027. Though they’ve backed off for now, the clause keeps the door open for a dramatic return if Como delay any transfer.
Manchester United are poised to make a move for Nico Paz once their forward line is complete, but competition will be fierce. With Tottenham’s initial interest faltering, Chelsea and potentially Real Madrid could challenge the Red Devils for the 20-year-old’s signature. If United can navigate their financial constraints, Paz could be the final piece to elevate their midfield this season.
