Manchester City head to Monaco for their Champions League showdown on October 1st, and everything points toward goals. Pep Guardiola’s men look back in rhythm after a 5-1 win over Burnley, while Adi Hütter’s Monaco remain dangerous in attack but leaky at the back.

Monaco vs Man City Predictions & Betting Tips

It’s a huge night under the lights in Fontvieille as Monaco host Manchester City in the Champions League. Pep Guardiola’s side arrive off the back of a morale-boosting 5-1 win over Burnley, while Adi Hütter’s men are searching for consistency after a mixed start to the season.

With two attack-minded teams on show — and defensive vulnerabilities on both sides — fans and bettors alike can expect plenty of action.

Best Bets for Monaco vs Man City

  • Over 3.5 goals – odds of 2.22 (Bet9ja)
  • Both teams to score – odds of 1.58 (Bet9ja)
  • Phil Foden to score or assist – odds of 1.67 (Bet9ja)
  • Correct score prediction – Manchester City to win 3-1

Form Guide

Monaco have endured a rollercoaster start to the campaign. They’ve won four and lost three across all competitions, most recently suffering a 3-1 defeat to Lorient. With 15 goals scored and 13 conceded in just seven matches, their open style has been both a blessing and a curse.

Manchester City, meanwhile, have shown glimpses of brilliance but also surprising fragility. Strong wins over Manchester United and Napoli have been offset by defeats to Spurs and Brighton. However, their 5-1 dismantling of Burnley at the weekend suggests Guardiola’s side are sharpening their edge again.

Probable Lineups

Monaco (expected XI): Kohn, Vanderson, Dier, Kehrer, Henrique, Akliouche, Coulibaly, Teze, Minamino, Fati, Biereth

Man City (expected XI): Donnarumma, Nunes, Stones, Gvardiol, O’Reilly, Gonzalez, Bobb, Silva, Reijnders, Doku, Haaland

Why We Expect Goals

Both sides have firepower but are far from watertight. Monaco are yet to keep a clean sheet this season, while City have conceded six in their last eight outings. With Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Ansu Fati and Mika Biereth all likely to feature, it’s hard to imagine a quiet night in Fontvieille.

Monaco’s injury list adds further complications: Lamine Camara, Denis Zakaria, Aleksandr Golovin and goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky are all sidelined. That leaves their back line vulnerable against one of Europe’s most dangerous attacks.

Player to Watch: Phil Foden

Phil Foden looks to have rediscovered his spark. The England star has been directly involved in eight goals in his last 10 appearances for City, including key contributions in the Club World Cup. While Haaland remains the most obvious scorer, Foden’s creativity and improved finishing make him a valuable bet to score or assist here.

Prediction

This has all the ingredients of a high-scoring European clash. Monaco will likely cause problems with their pace and directness, but City’s firepower should see them through.

Predicted scoreline: Monaco 1-3 Manchester City

Argentina and Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodrigo De Paul has opened up about the influence of Lionel Messi, revealing how the Argentina captain commands respect through action rather than words. De Paul, who has shared many important moments on the pitch with Messi, also hinted at the possibility of reuniting with the Inter Miami superstar in the MLS. What Happened? De Paul and Messi have forged an unbreakable bond both on and off the field. Together, they secured the Copa América in 2021 and triumphed at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. De Paul’s praise for Messi extends beyond his playing ability, acknowledging the quiet leadership Messi provides. As rumours swirl about De Paul possibly joining Messi at Inter Miami, the midfielder shared insights into Messi's leadership style, one based more on actions than words. What De Paul Said In a recent interview with Simplemente Futbol, De Paul described Messi’s ability to inspire discipline without ever raising his voice: "He doesn’t speak a lot, but his actions set the tone. If lunch is at 1 pm, he’s already there before 1. Without saying a word, he creates discipline." This approach to leadership is mirrored on the pitch, where the pair’s connection is almost telepathic. De Paul continued: "Sometimes we just look at each other and know what’s needed to reorganise the team. It makes the process more fluid." The Bigger Picture While Atletico Madrid midfielder De Paul’s contract runs until 2026, speculation has been rife about a potential move to the United States. Inter Miami are reportedly keen on signing the Argentine, and negotiations are said to be progressing. However, a move to MLS would face hurdles due to the league's salary cap structure. De Paul could join Inter Miami at a salary of around $850,000 or the club would need to free up a Designated Player (DP) slot for him. Despite these obstacles, De Paul has made it clear that his decision won’t be driven by finances but by how valued he feels by the club. He explained: "Sometimes it’s not about the financial side. It’s how a club makes you feel. I just wanted to be in a place where I felt wanted. That matters more than a contract." His time at Udinese, where he was entrusted with the No. 10 shirt, further exemplifies his desire for respect and trust over financial compensation. What’s Next for Inter Miami? Bringing in Rodrigo De Paul would be a significant boost for Inter Miami as they continue to build a team around Lionel Messi. De Paul's deep understanding of Messi’s play style and the chemistry they share could prove pivotal in the Herons’ quest for MLS dominance. As they push forward in the MLS, their next game is against Cincinnati, and the future could see De Paul join forces with Messi once again in the US.
