Alexander Isak’s Future in Doubt as Newcastle Legend and Pundits Suggest Club Should Cash In

The transfer saga surrounding Alexander Isak is heating up, and it’s beginning to look like his days at Newcastle United may be numbered. With reports emerging that the Swedish striker has requested a move away, pressure is mounting on the Magpies to make a tough decision—hold on to their star player or cash in while his market value peaks. As Premier League giants Liverpool and Arsenal circle, voices both inside and outside the club are leaning toward a high-stakes sale.

Isak Hands in Transfer Request Amid Premier League Interest

On Thursday, news broke that Alexander Isak is looking to explore new opportunities this summer, sparking immediate interest from top clubs, including Liverpool. The Reds, now managed by Arne Slot, had previously tracked Isak but opted to sign Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike for a reported £69 million—a player Newcastle themselves had been targeting.

While Ekitike’s arrival at Anfield may appear to take Liverpool out of the running, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reports that the Merseysiders haven’t ruled out a move for Isak altogether. However, further departures from Liverpool’s roster would be needed to fund such a deal.

Arsenal Step Back as Gyokeres Deal Nears Completion

Arsenal, long-time admirers of Isak, were once seen as a serious contender for the striker’s signature. However, the Gunners are now closing in on Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres, effectively ending their pursuit of the Newcastle frontman. That leaves Liverpool as the most prominent suitor—at least for now.

Simon Jordan: “Sell Him – No One is Bigger Than the Club”

Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has joined a growing list of voices urging Newcastle to consider a sale. Speaking on talkSPORT, Jordan aligned himself with club legend Alan Shearer, stating:

“No one is bigger than the football club. If someone is prepared to meet Newcastle’s valuation, you sell him. The money could be reinvested to build a stronger squad overall.”

Jordan emphasized that head coach Eddie Howe shouldn’t be forced to manage a player whose commitment is in question, especially heading into a pivotal season where squad harmony will be essential.

Alan Shearer Backs Sale if Price Is Right

Newcastle’s all-time leading scorer Alan Shearer also weighed in, expressing disappointment over the club’s handling of the situation. He questioned the official line that Isak missed a recent pre-season trip due to a minor thigh injury, calling it a “ridiculous” cover story.

“If he really wants to go and the club gets an offer of £150 million or more, you have to say thank you and move on,” Shearer said.

He credited Isak for playing a crucial role in Newcastle’s recent success but insisted that if the forward is no longer committed, the club must prioritize its long-term goals.

What’s Next for Newcastle and Isak?

With Isak pushing for a move and Newcastle reportedly willing to listen to offers in the region of £150 million, the situation remains fluid. Liverpool’s financial position, player sales, and ongoing transfer activity could all influence whether they reignite serious talks.

For Newcastle, the coming weeks will be crucial. Do they dig in and fight to keep their talisman, or do they follow the advice of club icons and pundits and reinvest in a broader squad rebuild?
