Ruben Amorim insists he is “not concerned” about his Manchester United future despite a dismal 3-1 defeat at Brentford, piling more pressure on the under-fire coach. With just nine wins from 33 league games, United’s patience is wearing thin as inconsistency continues to define Amorim’s reign.
Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United nightmare deepened on Saturday as the Red Devils slumped to a 3-1 defeat against Brentford, leaving the Portuguese boss battling mounting scrutiny over his future at Old Trafford.
United once again failed to build on momentum, following up a big win against Chelsea with another dismal collapse. Igor Thiago struck twice inside 20 minutes to stun the visitors before Benjamin Sesko gave United brief hope with his first goal for the club. But Bruno Fernandes’ missed penalty proved costly, and Mathias Jensen wrapped up the points for Brentford late on, sparking fresh boos from the away end.
The result means Amorim has won just nine of his 33 Premier League matches in charge, with United still unable to string together back-to-back victories. His persistence with a 3-4-3 system has frustrated supporters and left critics questioning whether he is the right man to lead the club forward.
Yet, speaking after the defeat, Amorim remained defiant. “I am always comfortable with the job. I am not concerned, it is not my decision. I will do the best I can every minute I am here,” he told reporters. “Sometimes you see improvements, sometimes not. It depends on the next game. So let’s try to win the next game and improve certain things.”
The dressing room atmosphere, however, appears bleak. New signing Matheus Cunha admitted the mood is “horrible,” with players growing frustrated at their inability to deliver results. “Everyone wanted to do more, everyone needs to do more. Of course, we need to go again – that’s the only way,” he said.
United’s next test comes at Old Trafford against newly promoted Sunderland, who arrive in strong form. With an international break looming and Liverpool away on the horizon, pressure is intensifying on Amorim. Anything less than victory against Sunderland could prove decisive for his future.
