Man United Boss Signals Openness to Return of Transfer-Listed Players If Deals Stall
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has declared he is “ready to receive” a group of players currently on the club’s transfer list if they remain at Old Trafford past the summer window. Despite United’s efforts to offload several underperforming stars, the Portuguese coach appears prepared to reintegrate them into the squad if necessary.
With Marcus Rashford already sealing a move to Barcelona, United are still seeking suitors for Jadon Sancho, Antony, Tyrell Malacia, and Alejandro Garnacho. While Amorim has made it clear that some players are surplus to requirements, he’s not ruling out their return should transfer negotiations fall through.
Amorim Open to Reunion with Unwanted Stars
Speaking during a press conference on Friday, Amorim addressed the uncertain futures of Sancho, Garnacho, Antony, and Malacia. While the club is actively working to facilitate their exits, he made it clear that they could still be part of the squad when the new season kicks off.
“Some players want new challenges, others need to leave to create room in the squad,” Amorim said. “But if no deal is reached, they are still Manchester United players. I’m ready to receive them.”
He emphasized that competition for places would be welcomed: “If they return, it gives me more options. If they have to fight each other for a place in the team, that’s perfect.”
Amorim’s comments may serve as both a pragmatic stance and a tactical move to maintain the club’s bargaining power in the transfer market.
New Signings Boost Squad Morale and Depth
Manchester United have already made key signings this summer, landing Matheus Cunha from Wolves by activating his £62.5 million release clause, and completing a protracted deal for Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. The club also added young left-back Diego Leon to the mix.
Amorim expressed satisfaction with the summer business so far:
“I’m really pleased with the new arrivals. We wanted players with Premier League experience, and Matheus and Bryan offer that along with the right mentality.”
He praised Cunha’s versatility and character: “Matheus is young but experienced. He brings flexibility and understands the demands here. That’s exactly what we need.”
The manager highlighted the humility of the new recruits, noting their decision to join United despite other offers: “They had Champions League clubs chasing them, but they chose us. That shows their character, and that matters to me.”
Striker Search Continues Despite Reinforcements
Despite new additions, Amorim hinted that United could still move for an out-and-out striker. The current duo of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have yet to fully convince, and Amorim acknowledged the need for better chemistry up front.
“We’re working on improving the connection between Josh and Rasmus,” he said. “There’s no guarantee of starting spots — everyone has to fight for their role.”
When asked whether another striker would be brought in, Amorim left the door open without confirming any active pursuit.
Cunha: “United Was Always My Dream Club”
Joining Amorim at the press conference in the U.S., new signing Matheus Cunha opened up about his move to Manchester United. The Brazilian forward said the decision was straightforward.
“United was always my dream club,” Cunha said. “Ruben played a huge role — he showed how important I would be in his plans. It was an easy choice.”
