West Ham United’s managerial situation is rapidly escalating, with reports suggesting the club is already considering replacements for current boss Graham Potter. Among the unexpected names in the mix is Burnley manager and former Hammer, Scott Parker, who has reportedly held initial talks with the club’s hierarchy.
West Ham’s Woes Continue Under Potter
Expectations were high when Graham Potter took the reins at West Ham, but a dismal start to the Premier League campaign has thrown his future into serious doubt. With just one win from their first five league matches and an early League Cup exit at the hands of Wolves, pressure is mounting on the former Chelsea manager.
The Hammers were hoping to collect at least four points from a three-game run leading into the international break. However, last weekend’s 2-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace has left Potter’s position hanging by a thread, especially with difficult away trips to Everton and Arsenal looming.
Scott Parker a Surprise Contender for the Job
According to a report from GiveMeSport, Scott Parker has emerged as a shock candidate to replace Potter, should the club decide to make a change. Currently managing Burnley, Parker’s name has been floated at the highest levels within the West Ham boardroom.
Despite Parker having two years left on his contract at Turf Moor, West Ham are reportedly intrigued by the idea of bringing in a former player familiar with the club’s culture. His managerial resume includes stints at Fulham and Bournemouth, where he earned promotions but also faced criticism for inconsistent Premier League results.
Other Options on the Table
Parker isn’t the only name in contention. West Ham are also said to be considering experienced candidates such as Nuno Espirito Santo, Slaven Bilic, and Gary O’Neil — all of whom are currently unattached and wouldn’t require a buyout fee.
The inclusion of multiple potential successors suggests that West Ham’s board is preparing for a managerial change, even if they have yet to officially part ways with Potter.
Criticism Over Club’s Handling of Situation
The club’s handling of the situation has drawn sharp criticism, most notably from former Manchester United and Tottenham scout Mick Brown. Speaking to Football Insider, Brown blasted the Hammers for engaging with other managers while Potter remains in charge.
“It’s appalling,” said Brown. “This kind of behaviour was once considered unacceptable — talking to other managers behind a sitting coach’s back. Now it seems to be the norm at West Ham.”
He went on to call the club’s conduct “disgraceful,” particularly for making discussions with potential replacements so public.
A Decision Imminent?
With mounting pressure, underwhelming results, and behind-the-scenes discussions already in motion, Graham Potter’s time at West Ham appears to be nearing its end. Whether the board pulls the trigger before the international break or waits for further slip-ups, a managerial change seems more a question of when, not if — and Scott Parker may just be the man to step in.
