Jurgen Klopp now works for Red Bull after leaving Liverpool in the summer of 2024.

In a bizarre and highly unprofessional outburst, UEFA delegate and former Romanian international Florin Prunea has launched a personal tirade against Jurgen Klopp—one of football’s most respected managers. Speaking on a Romanian podcast, Prunea dismissed Klopp as a “clown,” mocked his appearance, and claimed the former Liverpool boss took a new role “just for the money.” The comments have sparked backlash, raising questions about the standards UEFA holds for its officials.

Klopp’s Legacy at Liverpool Still Fresh

Jurgen Klopp ended his remarkable nine-year tenure at Liverpool in the summer of 2024, having guided the club to five major trophies, including a historic Premier League title and a Champions League crown. The German tactician left the role citing burnout and later joined the Red Bull sports group as Global Sports Director.

Despite stepping away from coaching, Klopp remains a revered figure in world football for his high-energy, player-focused approach and tactical brilliance. His influence was once again a topic of praise during a recent podcast discussion—until it took a sharp and unexpected turn.

UEFA Official Launches Personal Attack

During an appearance on the IamSport YouTube podcast, Florin Prunea, now a UEFA delegate, stunned viewers by launching into a personal attack on Klopp. Responding to host Costin Ștucan’s reference to Klopp’s selfless leadership style, Prunea mocked both the man and his career.

“Leave me with your papagal,” said Prunea, using a Romanian slang term for “clown.”
“All that circus… You’d say he was chewing bricks with his teeth.”

He went on to question Klopp’s reasons for leaving Liverpool, disregarding Klopp’s explanation of physical and emotional fatigue. Instead, Prunea alleged the German took the Red Bull role simply to “collect money without working.”

Host Defends Klopp, Calls Out Insults

Ștucan, visibly shocked, defended Klopp throughout the exchange, pointing out the manager’s role in Liverpool’s resurgence after decades without a league title.

“How can you say something like that? That’s impossible. He won Liverpool’s title—the first in 30 years,” the host exclaimed.

When Prunea continued to diminish Klopp’s legacy, calling him “not a coach” and mocking his physical stature, Ștucan pushed back, calling the remarks “terrible” and labeling the delegate’s view of football as outdated.

UEFA’s Silence Raises Eyebrows

The comments have stirred widespread disbelief—not just for their disrespect, but because they came from a current UEFA delegate. As someone tasked with ensuring professionalism and smooth operations at official matches, Prunea’s remarks appear to fly in the face of the standards expected from football’s governing body.

There has been no official response from UEFA regarding the incident, but the episode raises uncomfortable questions about the conduct of its representatives and what, if any, consequences will follow.
