As preseason ramps up and squads take shape, American players are increasingly active in the transfer market. From Gio Reyna’s potential Serie A move to Wolfsburg’s pursuit of Josh Sargent, the 2025 summer window could be pivotal for several U.S. internationals aiming to solidify roles ahead of the World Cup cycle.
As European clubs enter the final stretch of preseason, a number of U.S. men’s national team stars and prospects are finalizing moves that could shape their careers—and the USMNT’s long-term outlook—with just a year and a half left before the 2026 World Cup on home soil.
Some deals are already over the line, others are edging closer, and plenty more remain in the rumor stage. But if this window has made one thing clear, it’s that American players continue to draw serious attention across Europe.
Reyna edges closer to Serie A switch
After years of stops and starts at Borussia Dortmund, Gio Reyna may finally be set for a fresh start—and it’s one that could reignite his once-explosive trajectory. The 21-year-old has reportedly agreed to join Parma, with Sky Sports’ Gianluca Di Marzio and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano confirming the player has greenlit the deal. The two clubs are now in advanced negotiations over a permanent transfer.
Parma’s offer is believed to be in the region of $6.95 million, with a proposed contract running through 2028 and a hefty €27 million ($29M) release clause included. Should the deal go through, Reyna would become the first American to play for the club, which is owned by U.S. businessman Kyle Krause. The Serie A side narrowly escaped relegation last season and recently appointed 29-year-old Spaniard Carlos Cuesta, formerly of Arsenal’s staff, as their new head coach.
Despite rumors suggesting an MLS return was on the cards—specifically to LAFC—Tom Bogert reports that such a move is not under consideration at this time.
Bundesliga duel for Dortmund winger Campbell
Borussia Dortmund could lose one of their most promising young American talents, as Cole Campbell draws serious interest from Bundesliga rivals. The 19-year-old winger, who broke into the BVB first team last season and featured in both league and cup competitions, is the subject of interest from Stuttgart and Eintracht Frankfurt.
Stuttgart are currently leading the race, with a bid of around €6 million being prepared, according to Ruhr Nachrichten. Campbell, who also played 11 games for Dortmund II last season, is a dual national (USA/Iceland) but has represented the U.S. at youth level. He famously scored twice in a U17 victory over England earlier this year and remains highly rated within the USMNT setup.
Agyemang joins Derby after breakout Gold Cup
Patrick Agyemang’s rise in 2025 has been rapid—and now, it includes a move to English football. The 24-year-old striker has signed a four-year deal with Derby County following an $8 million switch from Charlotte FC, a club-record fee for the MLS side.
Agyemang, who started every game for Mauricio Pochettino’s side during the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup, has become one of the USMNT’s most dependable forwards this year, scoring five goals in 12 appearances. Although his start to life in the Championship will be delayed slightly due to minor hernia surgery, Derby have made clear they view him as a long-term asset.
Speaking after the move, Agyemang revealed he’d been aware of Derby’s interest during the Gold Cup but opted to stay focused on international duty until the deal could be finalized.
Wolfsburg move for Josh Sargent gaining momentum
Back in the Bundesliga? Wolfsburg are reportedly preparing a $28 million offer for Norwich City striker Josh Sargent, who finished the 2024–25 Championship campaign with 15 goals—good enough for fourth in the league.
Since joining Norwich from Werder Bremen in 2021, Sargent has tallied 48 goals in 133 appearances. At 25, the Missouri native appears ready for another crack at Germany’s top flight, where he previously logged 70 appearances for Bremen as a teenager.
Though he was left out of the Gold Cup squad this summer, Wolfsburg—now under new manager Paul Simonis—see Sargent as a potential key figure in their attacking rebuild.
Other names to monitor
Several additional American internationals and prospects are in play as the window unfolds:
- Yunus Musah: Reports of a move from AC Milan to Napoli have gone quiet, but Premier League sides Wolves and Nottingham Forest are monitoring the midfielder closely.
- Matt Turner: Linked with Ligue 1 club Lyon earlier in the summer, but no recent developments have emerged.
- Diego Luna: Celta Vigo have shown interest in the Real Salt Lake attacker, though no official offer has been submitted.
- Griffin Yow: Portsmouth are reportedly keen on the U23 Olympic winger, who appears set to leave Westerlo.
- Tim Weah: A move to Marseille remains in play, with reports indicating the player is pushing for it. However, Juventus and Marseille are yet to finalize terms.
Confirmed USMNT deals this summer
- Julian Eyestone: Signed a new deal with Brentford and promoted to the senior squad for 2025/26.
- Damion Downs: Completed a $9.5 million move from FC Köln to Southampton.
- Noahkai Banks: Extended his contract with Augsburg through 2028.
- George Campbell: Joined West Bromwich Albion from CF Montréal on a permanent transfer.
- Johnny Cardoso: Signed with Atlético Madrid from Real Betis on a multi-year deal.
As the window heats up, more American moves are expected to unfold. With so many players entering key stages of their development, every transfer could have implications not just for club form—but for the national team picture heading into 2026.
