Wrexham Go Global: 2025 Pre-Season Tour Heads to Australia and New Zealand

Wrexham AFC head to Australia and New Zealand for their 2025 pre-season tour. With new signings and global fanfare, here’s everything you need to know—fixtures, squad, tickets, and how to watch live.

Wrexham AFC’s rise through the English football pyramid continues to captivate fans worldwide, and their latest move only adds to the club’s global footprint. For the first time, the Red Dragons will head to Australia and New Zealand for pre-season preparations ahead of their 2025–26 Championship campaign.

Under the spotlight of Hollywood owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, Wrexham’s pre-season tours have become high-profile events—and this summer’s journey Down Under is no exception.

Why Wrexham Chose Australia and New Zealand

After consecutive summer tours in the United States, Wrexham are switching continents. The decision was partly driven by fan engagement metrics from the Welcome to Wrexham documentary series, where Australia ranks as the club’s third-largest viewing market behind only the U.S. and U.K.

“There is a lot of love for Wrexham,” McElhenney told Rolling Stone. “Australia is our third-biggest audience for the show, which I find fascinating.”

This new frontier represents both a commercial and cultural opportunity as Wrexham continue building a loyal international fanbase.

Wrexham kicked off their Tour Down Under with a 3-0 win against Melbourne Victory on July 11 at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, following which they are in line to take on other Australian A-League teams, Sydney FC and Wellington Phoenix on July 15 and 19 at Allianz Stadium and Sky Stadium, respectively.

Unlike their pre-season ahead of their League Two campaign in 2023, the Red Dragons may follow the approach of playing a pre-season game at home, like they did in 2024, before heading into the new season.

Head coach Phil Parkinson has named a 30-man squad for the tour, with several fresh faces joining the ranks. Wales international goalkeeper Danny Ward and striker Ryan Hardie, who arrived from Plymouth Argyle in a £700,000 deal, will both feature prominently.

Also on board is veteran forward Jay Rodriguez, bringing Premier League pedigree with 46 top-flight goals from his time at Burnley, Southampton, and West Brom. Club captain James McClean, with 103 caps for the Republic of Ireland and 158 Premier League appearances, adds leadership and experience to the mix.

How to Watch Wrexham’s Pre-Season Fixtures

Fans across the globe will have multiple options to catch Wrexham’s Down Under tour live:

  • In the U.S., matches will be shown on Fubo and Paramount+
  • Worldwide (excluding Australia & New Zealand): Games can be streamed via the Wrexham AFC Match Pass

A full-tour pass is available for £24.99, while individual matches can be purchased for £9.99.

For full streaming information, visit Wrexham AFC’s official match pass page.

Opening Fixtures and Key Dates

Wrexham’s Championship campaign begins with a stern away test against recently relegated Southampton. The club will also find out their opponents in the Carabao Cup first round and EFL Trophy group stage on June 26.

Fans can secure tickets for upcoming fixtures via Wrexham’s official ticketing portal.

Big Expectations for 2025–26

Having secured back-to-back promotions in recent seasons, Wrexham now face a higher level of competition in the Championship. The club’s summer preparations—anchored by a high-quality pre-season schedule and smart transfer activity—signal serious intent to keep the momentum going.

The Australia and New Zealand tour won’t just test the team’s readiness on the pitch, but it will also further solidify their global status as one of football’s fastest-growing cult clubs.

Previous Article Real Madrid have officially completed the signing of Spanish full-back Álvaro Carreras from Benfica, bringing the 22-year-old back to the Santiago Bernabéu on a six-year deal. The agreement, which had been in the works for several weeks, was delayed until after the Club World Cup due to Benfica’s reluctance to lower their financial demands. Madrid Reunite with Former Academy Prospect Carreras returns to the Spanish capital five years after leaving the club’s youth setup. Originally signed from Deportivo La Coruña at the age of 14, he spent three years in Madrid’s academy before departing for Manchester United in 2020. While he never made a senior appearance for the Red Devils, Carreras earned recognition as their U23 Player of the Season in 2021–22. After a loan spell with Granada failed to launch his first-team career, it was in Lisbon where Carreras truly found his footing. His performances on loan at Benfica earned him a permanent deal earlier this year, and he went on to win the Portuguese League Cup in 2024. Negotiations Stalled Before Club World Cup Real Madrid's interest in Carreras reignited earlier this summer, but Benfica president Rui Costa stood firm on the €50 million release clause, stalling the deal before the Club World Cup. Club president Florentino Pérez had hoped to seal the move in time for the global tournament, but the two sides only reached a breakthrough after Madrid’s campaign had concluded. The delay didn’t diminish Madrid’s interest. Coach Xabi Alonso had identified Carreras as a key target to add depth and dynamism to the left side of defence heading into the 2025–26 season. Official Announcement and Presentation Details In a statement released on Monday, Real Madrid confirmed the transfer and outlined Carreras' return: “Real Madrid CF and Sport Lisboa e Benfica have reached an agreement for the transfer of Álvaro Carreras, who remains tied to our club for the next six seasons, until June 30, 2031.” The club added that Carreras would be officially presented at Real Madrid City on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. local time. A Busy Summer at the Bernabéu Carreras becomes Madrid’s fourth summer acquisition as Xabi Alonso continues to shape his squad. He joins Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth, rising Argentine star Franco Mastantuono from River Plate, and England international Trent Alexander-Arnold, who made a high-profile switch from Liverpool. Club América manager André Jardine has addressed swirling transfer rumors around star winger Brian Rodríguez, making it clear that Las Águilas will only sell if their valuation is met—and that the Uruguayan remains happy in Mexico City despite interest from abroad. 💰 América Demand Full Fee Amid Interest from Inter Miami & Al Rayyan Rodríguez, who is off to a flying start in the Apertura 2025 with two goals and one assist, was instrumental in América’s recent 3-1 win over Tijuana. The 24-year-old’s impressive form hasn’t gone unnoticed, with both Inter Miami and Qatari side Al Rayyan showing concrete interest. While Al Rayyan are believed to have already tabled a $7 million bid, Jardine confirmed that América have placed a $10 million price tag on Rodríguez — and have no plans to entertain lowball offers. “Brian is a top-level player—not just for América, but for any team,” Jardine told reporters. “He’s still developing, he’s a national team player, and like everyone here, he has a price. If a club wants him, they’ll have to meet that price.” 🔄 Midseason Departures Pose a Challenge Jardine also acknowledged the complexity of losing a key player midseason, referencing past challenges like the sale of Julián Quiñones, whose exit was driven by a financially overwhelming offer the club couldn’t match. “Transfers can influence a player’s mindset. With someone like Quiñones, the offer was three times what we could match. We couldn’t compete with that level of freedom and money,” Jardine explained. While Rodríguez is reportedly content and unfazed by the speculation, América are preparing behind the scenes—in case a suitor does meet the asking price. 🇳🇱 Dilrosun Future Still Unclear Meanwhile, another player whose future is uncertain is Javairô Dilrosun, currently on loan at LAFC. Reports indicate the MLS club is unlikely to activate the purchase clause, and Jardine has made it clear the Dutch winger does not feature in his long-term plans. Should Dilrosun return to Coapa, the club is expected to seek a new destination for him immediately, potentially freeing up room for another incoming transfer. ⚙️ One Final Signing on the Cards With three new signings already secured and two loanees recalled, Jardine confirmed that América are targeting one final addition to complete their summer business. “The idea is to be precise — bring in someone who not only fits our footballing needs but also adds to the locker room. We’ve done our research. We’ve faced these players before, asked around, and we believe we’ve chosen well so far.” 🏆 Campeón de Campeones Showdown Looms América will now shift their focus to the Campeón de Campeones match this Sunday, when they face Toluca at Dignity Health Sports Park in Los Angeles. With speculation swirling around key players, Jardine will hope the squad’s full attention is on securing another piece of silverware.
