Rising Transfer Tension: Premier League Giants Chase Xavi Simons Amid Exit Push
The summer transfer window is heating up, and RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons is right at the center of the storm. According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, both Arsenal and Chelsea are closely monitoring the Dutch international, who has reportedly made it clear he wants to leave Germany this summer. With a price tag potentially falling below €70 million, the race for the dynamic playmaker could intensify in the coming weeks.
Simons Signals Summer Exit
Simons, who joined RB Leipzig permanently from Paris Saint-Germain earlier this year following a successful loan spell, has reportedly informed the club of his intention to depart. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder made a strong impression last season, tallying 11 goals and 8 assists in 33 appearances, and had previously earned a place in the Bundesliga Team of the Season.
Despite his promising performances, Leipzig failed to secure European qualification, which appears to have played a key role in Simons’ decision. Romano confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that “Simons wants to leave,” and that developments in his transfer situation are “expected to develop soon.”
Arsenal’s Creative Conundrum
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have been active early in the window, already sealing deals for Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Noni Madueke. However, the Gunners are still in the market for a natural playmaker—particularly with Martin Ødegaard’s inconsistent form in question.
The North London club has also been linked to Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, but Simons presents a younger, more versatile option with elite-level experience. With Andrea Berta leading recruitment, Arsenal’s intent to add a spark in midfield could lead to a formal move for the Dutchman soon.
Chelsea Rebuilding with Youth and Flair
Across the capital, Chelsea are also in transition under new head coach Enzo Maresca. The Blues have bolstered their squad with young attacking talent like Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, and Jamie Gittens. However, with Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku both expected to depart and Noni Madueke now an Arsenal player, Chelsea are still looking for another creative outlet.
While Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers remains their preferred target, Villa’s steep valuation near £80 million has made a deal difficult. This could shift Chelsea’s focus toward Simons, especially given his lower transfer fee and proven quality.
European Interest Grows
Bayern Munich have also entered the conversation, keeping tabs on Simons’ availability. The Bundesliga powerhouse could pose serious competition, but the Premier League allure—combined with potential starting roles at Arsenal or Chelsea—may sway the player’s decision.
As of now, neither Arsenal nor Chelsea have submitted formal bids, but both are expected to remain in close contact as the situation unfolds.
