Adrien Rabiot has penned an emotional farewell to Marseille fans following his controversial exit after a dressing room bust-up, with the France international now beginning a new chapter at AC Milan.
Adrien Rabiot has officially closed the chapter on his turbulent spell at Marseille, taking to social media to thank supporters after completing a move to AC Milan. The France international left the Orange Vélodrome under a cloud following a dressing room altercation in August, but made sure to express gratitude for the passion and support he received during his time in southern France.
A heartfelt farewell
In his farewell message on Instagram, Rabiot praised Marseille fans for embracing him despite his Parisian roots:
Since the first day I arrived in Marignane, you did not attach importance to my Parisian past, and immediately adopted me as a Marseillais, until I left… You have been of steadfast support. I felt this fervour, this passion, this love of football that makes Marseille a unique city and club in France. I will never forget the atmosphere of the Vélodrome.
Rabiot went on to recall the unforgettable moments of scoring and celebrating in front of the Marseille faithful, describing it as “an immense pleasure” to defend the club’s colours.
The controversy behind the exit
Rabiot’s departure comes after a heated bust-up in the dressing room with team-mate Jonathan Rowe following a Ligue 1 clash against Rennes. The fallout saw both players placed on the transfer list, forcing a premature end to what was expected to be a longer stay at OM. Having returned to France after five successful seasons at Juventus, the 29-year-old had hoped to rebuild his career at the Vélodrome, but off-field drama cut his spell short.
New beginnings at AC Milan
Now signed to a three-year deal with AC Milan, Rabiot is looking to move on from the controversy and re-establish himself at the top level in Serie A. His immediate challenge will be to secure a place in Stefano Pioli’s midfield and keep himself in contention for Didier Deschamps’ France squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
For Rabiot, Marseille may not have ended as planned, but his words underline the bond he felt with the fans — even as he takes his talents to San Siro.
