Roma Make Official Move for Sancho Amid Summer Exit Talks

Jadon Sancho’s Manchester United future appears increasingly uncertain as AS Roma have officially submitted a bid for the winger, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano. After being placed on the transfer list earlier this summer, Sancho now seems poised for a switch to Serie A — but not to Turkey, as he’s reportedly ruled out that destination.

Roma Step Up Interest with Formal Offer

Italian giants AS Roma have made their move to sign Sancho, presenting a proposal believed to be worth £20 million. While BBC Sport first reported Roma’s interest earlier this week, Romano has now confirmed the bid and added key details — including United’s openness to a loan move with an obligation to buy.

The Red Devils are said to be considering the offer, with the final decision hinging on both United’s valuation and Sancho’s stance. The winger has shown a willingness to join Roma, paving the way for negotiations to progress.

United’s Summer Clear-Out: Sancho Among Five Set to Exit

Sancho was one of five players informed by Erik ten Hag that they were free to leave Old Trafford this summer. So far, only Marcus Rashford has completed a move, heading to FC Barcelona on a season-long loan.

Following an underwhelming season at Chelsea — where he scored just five goals in 41 appearances during a loan spell that ended with the Blues paying £5 million to terminate a £25 million purchase clause — Sancho’s stock has fallen, but interest remains strong across Europe.

Italy, Not Turkey, Is Sancho’s Preferred Destination

Sancho has attracted attention from several Turkish and Italian clubs in recent months. While teams in Turkey were previously linked with a potential swoop, Romano reports that the 25-year-old has no intention of heading to the Süper Lig this summer.

Instead, Serie A looks the most likely landing spot, with Roma leading the chase. Juventus and Napoli were also reportedly monitoring the situation, but Roma’s formal offer puts them firmly in the driver’s seat.

Roma Eyeing Sancho and Bailey in Dual Transfer Push

Roma’s transfer activity doesn’t stop with Sancho. The club is also in talks to sign Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey. According to Romano, the pursuit of Bailey is not an alternative to Sancho, but part of a broader recruitment drive aimed at bolstering their attacking options.

“Roma are working on both deals,” Romano confirmed, adding that Besiktas — another club loosely linked with Sancho — are not actively pursuing the England international.
