Darwin Núñez Heads to Al-Hilal for €53m Transfer as Liverpool Set Sights on Alexander Isak

Liverpool have reached an agreement with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal for the transfer of Darwin Núñez in a deal worth €53 million (£46m/$62m), with the Uruguayan striker set to leave Anfield after a challenging stint in the Premier League.

Núñez’s Departure from Liverpool

Fabrizio Romano reports that Al-Hilal have struck a deal to sign the 24-year-old, who joined Liverpool from Benfica for £57 million ($76m) in 2022. Despite his potential, Núñez struggled to make an impact at Anfield, netting just 40 goals in 143 appearances across all competitions, with 25 of those coming in the Premier League from 95 games.

Funding the Pursuit of Alexander Isak

Núñez’s sale is set to fund Liverpool’s pursuit of Newcastle’s star forward Alexander Isak, with the Reds keen on securing the Swedish international in a British-record deal worth over £150 million ($200m). Liverpool’s initial bid for Isak was rejected, and reports suggest that they might explore alternative targets such as Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola.

What’s Next for Núñez and Liverpool?

Núñez is expected to sign a three-year contract with Al-Hilal and complete his move before Liverpool’s Community Shield match against Crystal Palace this weekend. As the Reds continue to reshape their attacking options, this sale provides them with the financial flexibility to complete a marquee signing in the form of Isak.
