Luis Diaz has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich.

Liverpool Line Up Potential Diaz Successor Amid Bayern Interest

As transfer rumors intensify around Luis Diaz’s possible move to Bayern Munich, Liverpool are reportedly exploring alternatives—and one name stands out: Lyon’s rising star Malick Fofana. While the Reds continue to resist bids for Diaz, they are also preparing for a scenario where the Colombian winger departs Anfield this summer.

Diaz Draws Strong Interest from Bayern Munich and Barcelona

Luis Diaz has emerged as a top target for several European powerhouses, with Bayern Munich leading the charge. According to reports, the German giants have already submitted a formal bid of £58.6 million, which Liverpool swiftly rejected. Barcelona remain in the picture as well, maintaining contact with the player’s representatives.

Despite Liverpool’s firm stance that Diaz is not for sale, multiple reports—including from respected journalist Fabrizio Romano—suggest the winger has expressed a desire to join Bayern. Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg added that Diaz has made it clear to the Reds that he wants the transfer to happen, with Bayern manager Vincent Kompany reportedly greenlighting the move.

While personal terms between Diaz and Bayern are said to be agreed upon, a deal between the two clubs has yet to be finalized.

Malick Fofana Emerges as a Top Target for the Reds

With the possibility of Diaz leaving, Liverpool have turned their attention to 19-year-old Belgian winger Malick Fofana. The Lyon starlet is attracting interest from top clubs including Chelsea, Arsenal, and PSG, but Liverpool are believed to have already held discussions with his representatives.

Though no formal bid has been made, Liverpool are “evaluating Fofana as an alternative signing” should Diaz make a summer exit. Lyon reportedly value the young attacker between €50–60 million, partly due to a sell-on clause owed to former club KAA Gent, which entitles them to 20% of any profit made on a transfer.

Fofana is known for his speed, creativity, and ability to operate across the front line—qualities that make him an attractive option for Liverpool’s evolving attack under new manager Arne Slot.

Arne Slot’s Liverpool Begins to Take Shape

The Reds have made a strong start to the summer transfer window, backing new head coach Arne Slot with several strategic signings, including Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, and Jeremie Frimpong. With speculation surrounding potential exits—not just Diaz but also Darwin Nunez, Harvey Elliott, and Ibrahima Konaté—Liverpool appear to be planning a proactive rebuild rather than reacting last-minute.

If Diaz’s departure does go through, Fofana represents a long-term investment in youth and talent, aligning with the club’s broader vision under Slot and FSG.

Didi Hamann Questions Bayern’s Diaz Pursuit

Former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann has voiced skepticism over Bayern Munich’s pursuit of Diaz, citing concerns about the player’s age, travel demands, and lack of resale value.

Speaking to Sky Germany, Hamann said, “To now bring in Luis Diaz, a 28-year-old South American who played 50 games per season for four or five years and has those long flights home… I wonder what they even have the campus [youth academy] for.”
