Liverpool Shift Focus from Rodrygo to Federico Chiesa After Italian's Impact in Premier League Opener

Liverpool have cooled their interest in Real Madrid’s Rodrygo after Federico Chiesa’s impressive performance in their 4-2 win against Bournemouth. The Reds are now set to back the Italian winger for the upcoming campaign, with both Manchester City and Arsenal eyeing a move for Rodrygo.

Liverpool have decided to back Federico Chiesa over pursuing Rodrygo from Real Madrid, after the Italian winger’s stunning performance in the Reds’ 4-2 victory over Bournemouth in the season opener.

Following speculation that Liverpool was considering a move for Rodrygo, the Brazilian winger who reportedly could be available for transfer this summer, the Reds have reportedly cooled their interest in the Real Madrid star. This decision follows Chiesa’s impactful substitute appearance, where he scored a vital goal and demonstrated his qualities in front of his teammates. According to The Mirror, Liverpool now appears set to put their faith in Chiesa for the upcoming campaign.

A Change of Fortune for Chiesa

Chiesa’s first season at Liverpool was far from ideal, marred by injuries and limited playing time, with the 27-year-old making just 14 appearances across all competitions. Despite scoring only two goals during that period, his stunning strike against Bournemouth has changed the narrative. The goal has won over both fans and teammates alike, making the winger a more integral part of Arne Slot’s plans.

With Rodrygo’s potential move no longer on the cards for Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal are now set to battle for the Real Madrid forward’s signature. The Brazilian has reportedly been given the green light to leave Madrid, but it remains to be seen which Premier League giants will make a move for him in the final days of the transfer window.

What’s Next for Both Wingers?

While Rodrygo has been linked with multiple clubs, Liverpool’s attention now seems focused on Chiesa, whose goal against Bournemouth has given him a new lease on life at Anfield. He will hope to feature prominently when Liverpool face Newcastle United on August 25.

As for Rodrygo, the transfer window is ticking down, with both Arsenal and Manchester City likely to engage in a bidding war before the deadline on September 1.
